1. Atheyna Bylon (PAN)
Atheyna Bylon, born in 1989, is a Panamanian middleweight boxer. Originally a police officer, she turned to boxing and won gold in the welterweight division at the 2014 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships. She also won several medals at the Pan American Games and the South American Games. Bylon represented Panama at the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games, but failed to reach the medal rounds.
At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, she competed in the women's middleweight division. She defeated Poland's El¿bieta Wójcik in the quarter-finals to become Panama's first female Olympic medallist. In the semi-finals she defeated Cindy Ngamba, a boxer from Cameroon representing the Refugee Olympic Team. Bylon eventually lost to China's Li Qian in the gold medal bout.
2. Rebeca Andrade (BRA)
Rebeca Andrade, born in Guarulhos in 1999, is a Brazilian artistic gymnast. At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics she won gold in the vault and silver in the all-around, becoming the first Brazilian woman to win an Olympic gymnastics medal. She followed this success with multiple World Championship titles, including gold in the vault in 2021 and 2023, as well as all-around gold in 2022.
At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, she competed in several events and won four medals in total: Gold in the floor exercise, silver in the all-around and vault and bronze in the team event, the first medal ever for the country's gymnastics team. She was the most decorated Brazilian at Paris 2024.
3. Yarisleidis Cirilo (CUB)
Yarisleidis Cirilo, born in Guantánamo in 2002, is a Cuban sprint canoeist specialising in C-1 and C-2 events. She emerged as a top competitor in the sport after winning several medals at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships. In 2021, she won silver in the C-2 200m event alongside her partner Katherin Nuevo. She continued her success in the following years, winning both individual and team world titles. Heading into Paris 2024, Cirilo was considered one of Cuba's strongest medal contenders in the canoe sprint.
At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Cirilo competed in both the C-1 200m and C-2 500m events. She secured a podium finish in the C-1 200m, winning bronze behind Canada's Katie Vincent and Nevin Harrison (USA). In the C-2 500m, she and her teammate reached the final but finished outside the medal positions.
4. Adriana Ruano (GUA)
Adriana Ruano Oliva, born in Guatamala City in 1995 is a Guatemalan sports shooter specialising in trap. Originally a gymnast, her ambitions in that sport were cut short by a spinal injury. She switched to shooting and made her Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, competing in the women's trap event. In 2023, Ruano won gold in the women's trap at the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile, representing the Independent Athletes Team due to the suspension of the Guatemalan Olympic Committee at the time.
At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Ruano achieved a historic milestone by winning the gold medal in the women's trap, setting a new Olympic record. This victory marked Guatemala's first ever Olympic gold medal. Silver and bronze went to Italy's Silvana Stanco and Australia's Penny Smith respectively.
5. Angie Palacios (ECU)
Angie Palacios, born in Shell in 2000, is an Ecuadorian weightlifter competing in the 71kg category. She comes from a famous weightlifting family, with her sisters Neisi and Alexadra also competing at elite level. Palacios won gold at the Pan American Championships in 2021, 2022 and 2023. She made her Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, finishing sixth in the women's 64kg.
At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Palacios competed in the women's 71kg. She lifted a total of 256 kg (116 kg in the snatch, 140 kg in the clean and jerk) to take bronze behind Olivia Reeves of the USA and Mari Sánchez of Colombia.
6. José Torres (ARG)
José Torres Gil, born in 1995 in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, is an Argentine BMX freestyle cyclist. He began his international career representing Argentina, winning a silver medal at the 2021 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. In 2023, he won a gold medal at the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile.
At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, he delivered an outstanding performance in the men's BMX freestyle event. He qualified for the final and scored a remarkable 94.82 points in his first run to win the gold medal. This was Argentina's first Olympic gold medal in BMX freestyle.
7. Yasmani Acosta (CHI)
Born in 1988 in Agramonte, Cuba, Yasmani Acosta Fernández is a Greco-Roman wrestler who competes in the 130kg weight class. Initially representing Cuba until 2015, Acosta moved to Chile, where he became a naturalised citizen and began competing for his adopted country in 2017. He won a bronze medal at the 2017 World Wrestling Championships. He continued to excel, winning medals at the Pan American Championships and qualifying Chile for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with a gold medal performance at the 2020 Pan American Olympic Qualifier.
At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, he delivered an outstanding performance in the men's Greco-Roman 130 kg category. He advanced to the final, where he faced his former Cuban teammate and wrestling legend, Mijaín López. In a highly anticipated match, Acosta secured the silver medal, while López made history by winning his fifth consecutive Olympic gold.
8. Jasmine Camacho-Quinn (PUR)
Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, born in 1996 in Charleston, South Carolina, is a Puerto Rican track and field athlete who specialises in the 100m hurdles. Her breakthrough on the international stage came at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where she set an Olympic record of 12.26 seconds in the semi-finals and went on to win the gold medal, becoming only the second athlete to win a gold medal for Puerto Rico. She continued her success with a bronze medal at the 2022 World Championships and a silver medal at the 2023 World Championships.
At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Camacho-Quinn competed in the women's 100 metres hurdles, looking to defend her Olympic title. In a highly competitive final, she finished with a time of 12.36 seconds to win the bronze medal. The race was exceptionally close, with American Masai Russell taking gold in 12.33 seconds and France's Cyrena Samba-Mayela taking silver in 12.34 seconds. Camacho-Quinn became the first Puerto Rican athlete to win two Olympic medals.
9. Stefano Peschiera (PER)
Stefano Peschiera, born in Lima in 1995, is a sailor specialising in the ILCA 7 (Laser) class. He began sailing at the age of two, a passion deeply rooted in his family's maritime heritage. Peschiera's early career was marked by significant achievements, including representing Peru at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where he competed in the Men's Laser class and finished 31st. In 2018, he was named the ICSA College Sailor of the Year. Peschiera won gold medals at the 2022 South American Games and the 2023 Pan American Games.
At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Peschiera delivered a historic performance in the Men's Laser class. Competing in the waters off Marseille, he won a bronze medal behind Australia's Matt Wearn and Cyprus's Pavlos Kontides. It was Peru's first Olympic medal in 32 years.
10. Osmar Olvera (MEX)
Born in Mexico City in 2004, Osmar Olvera is a diver specialising in the 3m springboard and synchronised events. He won gold at the 2021 Junior Pan American Games in Cali and continued his success at senior level. He won silver in the 3m springboard at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, securing Mexico's first-ever diving quota for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, he competed in the 3m springboard and 3m synchronised diving events. In the individual event, he delivered an exceptional performance, winning the bronze medal and becoming Mexico's first Olympic diving medallist since 2016. In the 3m synchronised event, Olvera and his partner Juan Celayashowed strong dives to finish second behind Long Daoyi and Wang Zongyuan of China.
