Answer: Fugitive Doctor

Jo Martin is back as the Fugitive Doctor. We first met her in "Fugitive of the Judoon" (2020) where she is fleeing Judoon troops who want to imprison her.

In "The Timeless Child" (2020), we learn the Fugitive Doctor is a past Doctor, who worked for Division. She helps Thirteen escape a trap set by the Master on Gallifrey.

In "Once, Upon Time," Thirteen relives a mission for Division in which she captured Swarm and Azure. Her reflection is the Fugitive Doctor.

Jo Martin has been acting since 1988. She was a series regular on "The Crouches".(2003-2005). And she played a neurosurgeon in the hospital drama "Holby City" (2019-23).

Answer: The museum

Dan meets Diane as she is leaving the museum. He has bought coffee for her. They walk through St Luke's church and then find themselves on the steps of Metropolitan Cathedral. Dan talks about his fiancee leaving him right before the wedding.

Later, Dan runs into Joseph Williamson, who assumes Dan is one of his workmen.

Gower Street is on the waterfront, near the Royal Albert Docks.

Answer: In a police car

Yaz is in a police car, where her partner alternates with a hologram of the Doctor.

Later, Bhavnisha Parmar returns as Yaz's sister Sonya. She is trying to learn video games in hopes of landing a boyfriend. A Weeping Angel appears in the video game then leaps out of the television. Yaz manages to kill it by smashing the video game controller.

Bhavnisha appeared on "Doctor Who" five times during seasons 11 and 12.

Answer: Grand Serpent

The Grand Serpent was an amoral political leader who ordered the assassination of his political rival's family.

When Vinder reported on the Grand Serpent's actions, the soldier wound up exiled to a space station in the middle of nowhere.

Craig Parkinson played the Grand Serpent. He has been acting since 1998. Parkinson is probably best known as Matthew Cotton in the action series "Line of Duty" (2012-21). He has some experience playing bad guys as the Kray twins in "Whitechapel" (2010).

Answer: The Ravagers

Swarm and Azure are the Ravagers. Who they are working for is uncertain. They may simply enjoy killing and destruction.

In any case, this episode does explain their hostility towards the Doctor. Evidently, the Fugitive Doctor captured them a very long time before and imprisoned them for at least several thousand years.

Sam Spruell plays Swarm and Rochenda Sandall is Azure. Without the glitter and makeup, she is actually quite pretty. Rochenda is another "Who" actor with "Line of Duty" (2019) on their resume. Spruell began acting in 2002.

Answer: Silurians

Bel starts out in Dalek territory. She acquires a Lupari ship, and travels through the Sontaran sector. She winds up in the Cyber Sector.

No Silurians in sight as they are in hibernation deep under the Earth.

Answer: 7 billion

Bel impressively kills a troop of Cyber soldiers with highly accurate shooting. She asks the one left alive about Cyber operations in the sector.

The precise number of Cybermen were 7 billion, 314 thousand, 409. Actually, minus the six Bel shot.

Answer: Love

When the Cybermen asks Bel about her mission, she tells him "Love." When the Cyberman argues that love is an emotion, Bel bluntly tells him "That's why you're dead on the floor and I'm the one who put you there."

Bel ends with "Love is the only mission." We learn later that Bel is the wife of Vinder and she has been searching for him across the universe. (Totally unintentional Beatles reference, unlike the clue.)

Answer: Weeping Angel

Yaz had been having encounters with Weeping Angels all through the episode. At the end, an Angel jumped out of her phone and gained control of the TARDIS.

Which leads directly into the next episode "Village of the Angels" (2021).

We first met the Weeping Angels in "Blink" (2007). They are quantum-locked creatures who cannot move if they are directly observed. They move remarkably fast, and send their victims into the past so they can feed off their quantum energy.

Answer: Azhur Saleem

"Once, Upon Time" is the first of three episodes that Azhur Saleem directed during the Flux series. A graduate of the London Film School, "Doctor Who" was his first big break as a director.

Segun Akinola was the composer for "Doctor Who" during Chris Chibnall and Jodie Whitaker's tenure at the show.

Theddea Graham was the intrepid Bel. A native of Northern Ireland, she has been pegged as a Rising Star. She started acting in 2017. After "Doctor Who," she worked with Ncuti Gatwa on "Sex Education" (2023).

Jonny Mathers had the thankless job of standing around in the Passenger suit during the Flux series. Mathers is actually a musician and artist. What made him a good fit for Passenger is he is 7 foot, 2 inches tall.
