The story opens in 1807 with a woman vandalizing a statue of a sea devil. It turns out the statue is a magic prison. The sea devil inside escapes but not before killing the man guarding the statue and multiple villagers.

Craige Els, who played Karvanista during the "Flux" series, was the main Sea Devil.

Dan is wearing a rather ridiculous pirate outfit, complete with Tri-corn hat. He claims that Yaz picked it out.

The costume comes in handy later when Dan is called on to be part of a pirate ship crew.

Madame Cheng was played by Crystal Yu. The Hong Kong based actress is best known to British audiences for her work as Lily Chao on "Casualty" (2013-17). She also worked with David Tennant on "Good Omens" (2023).

Cheng was based on the real life Zheng Yi Sai, the world's most successful pirate. At her peak, she commanded over 300 ships with over 40,000 pirates. She was active from 1801 to 1810. After her retirement, she ran a casino in Guangzhou.

Answer: Ji Hun

Unlike Madame Cheng, Ji Hun was not based on a real person. Ji Hun actually saved his crew from the Sea Devils, and was their prisoner 274 years.

Jin Hun later saved the Doctor when he took the reins of the explosion that trpapped the Sea Devils.

Arthur Lee played Ji Hun. He has been acting since 2015 with small roles in big pictures like "Age of Ultron" (2015) and "The Batman" (2022). He was born in London.

Answer: Lei Bao

Lei Bao escaped the ship in 1533, and his descendants guarded the secret of the keystone for 274 years.

Ying Wai was killed by the Sea Devils at the start of the episode. His son, Ying Ki, played an important role in the battle against the Sea Devils, enabling him to avenge his father.

Answer: Hausen

The Hausen was enormous. Based on its head alone, it must have been almost 100 feet long. It picked up the TARDIS like a chew toy.

Hausen is another name for Beluga Sturgeon. They are one of the world's largest fishes, measuring up to 7 meters and weighing over a metric ton.

Answer: Platonic Crystal

The Keystone was a platonic Crystal. The Sea Devils were using it to alter the Earth's polar fields and shifting the Earth's magnetic resonance. They wanted to melt the polar ice caps and cause global flooding.

Madame Cheng explained that her crew was being held for ransom, including her young sons. That was why she needed the treasure.
