Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where does the action in "The Star Beast" take place?

Answer: London

The episode happens in London, with a giant spaceship threatening to blow up Metro London and kill millions of people.

London has been a frequent backdrop ever since the start of "Doctor Who" in 1963. Even though they have been filming in Cardiff most frequently since 2005.

Donna Noble is back after a fifteen year absence. She is married and has a daughter. Donna is starting to have visions of her past with the Doctor, which threatens her life.

Donna (Catherine Tate) first met the Doctor during "The Runaway Bride" (2006) and they reunited in "Partners in Crime" (2008). Their adventures included narrowly escaping Mount Vesuvius, fighting Sontarans and meeting River Song.

Donna and the Doctor had their DNA fused in a meta crisis, creating a hybrid Doctor-Donna. She rescued the universe by defeating Davros, the creator of the Daleks. Unfortunately, the price was the Doctor had to erase her memories. If Donna remembered, the meta crisis would kill her.
2. Where did the spaceship crash in "The Star Beast"?

Answer: Steel works

The spaceship crashed in a steel works, which was convenient because it needed serious repairs.

The Doctor manages to infiltrate the plant with his sonic screwdriver. UNIT is on the scene, and a group of UNIT soldiers is brainwashed by an alien lifeform.
3. What is the name of Donna Noble's daughter?

Answer: Rose

We meet Donna's daughter Rose as they are out shopping. Rose turns out to be very important later on.

Rose is played by Yasmin Finney. She was 19 when she filmed "Star Beast". Yasmin is a native of Manchester and is probably best known for her work on the Netflix show "Heart Stopper" (2022).
4. What was the name of the cute alien in "The Star Beast"?

Answer: The Meep

The Meep appears to be friendly and harmless when Rose first meets it. There is a scene reminiscent of "E.T." (1982) where Rose hides the Meep among her dolls.

The Meep turns out to be a sociopathic fugitive who murders the police officers tracking him. He threatens to destroy Metro London in order to fuel his spaceship.

In the end, Rose Noble managed to capture the Meep, who will spend a very, very long time in prison.
5. Who is UNIT's 56th science advisor?

Answer: Shirley Anne Bingham

Shirley Anne Bingham meets the Doctor at the steel works, introducing herself as the science advisor. The Doctor notes he was the first science advisor.

Shirley is in a heavily armed wheelchair, and proves handy in a firefight.

Shirley was played by Ruth Madeley. She was born with Spina bifida. Her first work with Russell Davies was in his dystopian series "Years and Years" (2019), where he rewrote her part to include the wheelchair.
6. How much of her lottery money did Donna Noble give away?

Answer: 166 million

Donna won 166 million in the lottery -- the Doctor got her a ticket as a wedding gift. She and Sean bought a house and then Donna gave the vast majority of the money away to the less fortunate.

Only after the Doctor restored the hybrid does Donna realize she gave away the money because that is what the Doctor would have done.
7. What word does Donna begin repeating when she remembers the Doctor/Donna hybrid?

Answer: Binary

"Binary" is what Donna repeated the first time the meta-crisis went sour. Fifteen years later, she starts to repeat it, indicating she is in danger of melting down.

The Doctor tells Donna she has fifty-five seconds to live, but she makes the most of it, sabotaging the Meep's plan to escape Earth.
8. Remembering the meta-crisis kills Donna.

Answer: False

In a bit of deus ex machina revision, Donna survives remembering the meta-crisis because she has divided it with her daughter Rose.

Which comes in handy when Rose uses her meta skills to defeat the Meep.

In the end, Donna and Rose give up their meta sides and become regular humans once again.
9. What new TARDIS upgrade does Fourteen show to Donna?

Answer: Coffee maker

The Coffee machine is new. The Doctor makes Donna a cup of coffee, which she spills all over the console. It lights on fire and the TARDIS is sent to who-knows-where with fire and explosions all over the place. In other words, a typical "Doctor Who" event for a new Doctor.

The cookie dispenser was seen in "The Ghost Monument" (2018). The HADS has been around for decades and transports the TARDIS to a safe place when it is in danger.
10. Who directed "The Star Beast"?

Answer: Rachel Talalay

Rachel Talalay has directed some of the best episodes of "Doctor Who" including Peter Capaldi's tour de force in "Heaven Sent" (2015). She actually got her start working on the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series.

Cecily Fay was the stunt person behind the Meep. Both an actress and stunt person, Fay has done lots of science fiction and fantasy since 2004. She is also a composer.

Miriam Margolyes, Professor Sprout from the "Harry Potter" universe, gave voice to the Meep. She is a BAFTA-award winning actress, and was awarded an OBE for her decades long career in entertainment.

Catherine Tate is Donna Noble. She is one of the funniest people in England. Since her first stint on "Doctor Who" Tate has worked regularly in British television both in front and behind the camera.
