Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who did the Doctor and Donna meet in 1666?

Answer: Isaac Newton

They ran into Sir Isaac Newton shortly after the apple fell. Donna made a really bad gravity joke, which Newton misheard as "mavity."

This was also the first appearance of Susan Twist. She played Mrs Merridew, Isaac Newton's housekeeper.

The "mavity" joke was a little silly, because gravity has its roots in the Latin word "gravitas" meaning heavy.

Thomas Bloodworth was the Mayor of London during the Great Fire. Pepys wrote about it in his diary.
2. Where was the spaceship the TARDIS landed on in "Wild Blue Yonder"?

Answer: Beyond the Universe

That was some cup of coffee Donna spilled. She and the Doctor wound up in the nothingness that lies outside the universe.

They had a slow robot and two shapeshifters for company.

Twelve was near Neptune in "Sleep No More" and Eleven visited Trenzalore several times.
3. What did the Doctor call the robot in "Wild Blue Yonder"?

Answer: Jimbo

The Doctor referred to the short squat robot as "Jimbo". The only real function of the robot, aside from comic relief, was to slowly make his way to a self-destruct mechanism.

Jimbo was in fairly bad shape, heavily rusted, suggesting nobody had been around for maintenance in quite a long time.
4. What was the first sign that the shapeshifters were imposters?

Answer: Really long arms

Donna noted she could change the panels because her arms were too long. Really long, around ten feet.

The shape shifters also had trouble with jaws, and grew so large they could not move in the spaceship.
5. Where was Donna born?

Answer: Southampton

Shortly after fleeing the shapeshifters, the Doctor and Donna are trying to figure out who is real. Donna tells the Doctor she was born in Southampton, a fact he was unaware of.

Southampton is a port city on the southern coast, southwest of London, near the Isle of Wight.
6. What does the Doctor use to try and block the shapeshifters?

Answer: Salt

The Doctor laid down a line of salt in an effort to slow the shapeshifters. It didn't work and his use of superstition at the edge of everything would turn out to have consequences. (See "The Giggle")

Under the superstition, the spirit you were trying to block had to count the grains of salt before they could proceed.
7. What was the name of Donna's choir director?

Answer: Mrs Beet

Donna thought Mrs Beet was funny, partly because he name was a vegetable. The Doctor asked about Mrs Beet to try and figure out who the real Donna was. He goofed, but was able to fix it at the last second.
8. "Wild Blue Yonder" marks the first time the Doctor has been trapped without access to the TARDIS.

Answer: False

The Doctor being stranded without the TARDIS is a common trope in both the classic and modern show. In the modern era, the Doctor has been stranded at least sixteen times. Notable examples include "The Satan Pit" (2006) and "The Ghost Monument" (2018).

In "Wild Blue Yonder", the TARDIS kicks in the Hazard Avoidance Displacement System and vanishes for most of the episode. It returns right before the space station explodes.
9. What member of Donna's family do we see at the end of "Wild Blue Yonder"?

Answer: Wilfred

Wilfred Mott makes a brief appearance at the end of "Wild Blue Yonder". It was the last performance of Bernard Cribbens, who died shortly afterwards.

Cribbens (1928-2022) started acting in 1942 and worked in stage, films and television for almost 80 years. He was also a successful recording artist, with songs like "Right Said Fred" (1962). He received an OBE in 2011 in recognition of his entertainment career.

Cribbens made ten appearances as Wilfred, starting with "Voyage of the Damned" (2007). Most of his episodes were when Donna traveled with Ten.
10. Who directed "Wild Blue Yonder"?

Answer: Tom Kingsley

Tom Kingsley directed. He is probably best known for the comedy series "Stath Let's Flats" (2018). Kingsley has directed four films as well.

Daniel Tuite was the acting double for David Tennant. He has been acting in film and television since 2002. His credits include "Game of Thrones".

Nick Dance was the director of cinematography. He has been working in television since the 1990s. His credits include "Poldark".

Nathaniel Curtis played Isaac Newton. He first worked with Russell Davies on "It's a Sin" (2021). Curtis can be heard on several "Doctor Who" podcasts.
