Uncle Fester brought Wednesday to Gomez and Morticia saying that Wednesday needed "to be whacked" but Morticia said there was no physical punishment in the house. Wednesday had been shooting off all of Uncle Fester's dynamite caps when she had ones of her own. Wednesday said hers weren't any fun because they just went 'poop.' Morticia preferred to punish Wednesday in a method that would leave an impression on her mind. Very progressive for the early 1960s!

Gomez worried that the punishment would leave a scar but Morticia thought in a few days Wednesday would be as bright and chipper as a bat. (But honestly, Morticia didn't seem so convinced.) Pugsley decided that Wednesday should run away but hide in the house. Wednesday liked that idea so she could see her parents suffer.

Answer: Pugsley told them

Upon learning that Wednesday had run away, Gomez said Wednesday was adventurous and remarked that he hadn't run away until he was eight. Pugsley gave his parents the note and proudly said he helped her write the note. When Morticia started to organize a search of the house, Pugsley asked about searching the rivers. Gomez said that would be done tomorrow because Wednesday was a good swimmer.

And even worse, what if she joined the Brownies? They resolve to ask the police for help.

The policeman said "I bet you're going to tell me that her middle name's Thursday" but Morticia responds "Friday." However, right after Morticia hangs up the phone, Uncle Fester says he had found Wednesday - she was never lost, she was in Pugsley's room the whole time. Uncle Fester got suspicious when he found Pugsley sneaking food up to her and blamed Morticia for not being strict with Wednesday. Gomez climbed the tree outside Pugsley's room and confirmed that Wednesday was not lost.

Gomez and Morticia walk up to Pugsley's room and say how Wednesday is really gone and maybe one day she will remember how nice her home used to be. Morticia says if Wednesday wants to come back home, they will take her back - if there's room. Gomez then adds that now they will go and remove Wednesday's pictures from the family album.

But this plan backfires and Wednesday, believing her parents really don't love her, decides to actually run away.

Gomez and Morticia had said that was where she could get a job if she ran away from home when they knew she was hiding in Pugsley's room, so apparently Wednesday thought this was a viable option.

This is enough to scare Wednesday into telling the police her name. Sgt. Haley calls Morticia back asking if Wednesday is still home. Morticia still believes Wednesday is hiding up in Pugsley's room.

Right after Sgt. Haley left to see what was going on at the Addams house, Uncle Fester showed up looking for Wednesday. Apparently Pugsley told Uncle Fester that Wednesday had really run away from home this time, so Uncle Fester had gone all over town looking for her.

She's on the front porch skipping rope with Uncle Fester, who just brought her back from the police station. In the final scene, we learn that Sgt. Haley, having recovered, moved to Wabash, Indiana, and is now a junior detective. He was writing to the Addamses asking for them to send his badge back to him...

But there's a problem: the Addamses have a large collection of badges and can't remember which is his. (Apparently they scare a lot of police officers.)
