Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When blocking Aava the King's Pet's claw attacks, unless the player is using a particular flavor of the Havel or Rebel Greatshield, they'll take a very small amount of damage. This is because Aava's claws deal partial elemental damage in addition to simply physical. What element is imbued within Aava's claws?

Answer: Magic

Given that the Burnt Ivory King himself largely uses magic, it makes sense for this to extend toward his pets. The Havel and Rebel Greatshields are the only two in the game which can achieve 100% Magic absorption, done by having them infused with Magic stones. This makes them particularly strong options if a shield is needed for this fight.
2. The boss of the Cave of the Dead, affectionately referred to as the 'Gank Squad' by the community, leads off with the Afflicted Graverobber. If you look at the Graverobber's attire, however, you'll likely wonder if this is instead a former ally turning their blade on you. Whose cosmetic set is the Afflicted Graverobber wearing?

Answer: Alva

The Afflicted Graverobber and his pals dressed up as a few notable names. The Graverobber wears the headpiece, leggings and gauntlets of Alva the Wayfarer, although the chest piece is unique and unobtainable for the player.
3. Aldia, Scholar of the First Sin is a secret, optional final boss of the entire game. He will only show up once the player has reached a few very specific conditions before they defeat Nashandra. Which of the following must the player do before defeating Nashandra in order to fight Aldia?

Answer: Defeat Vendrick

In all, the player must speak to Aldia at each of his three dialogue moments, they must defeat Vendrick, then they can simply play through the Throne of Want the way they normally would have to. Doing so will cause Aldia to show up once Nashandra has been slain. In this way, Aldia serves as the final boss of the entire game.
4. The Ancient Dragon is a very imposing foe with an enormous healthpool and devastating damage output. Therefore, taking advantage of one of its three weaknesses would be a good idea to level the playing field. Which of the following is one of its weaknesses?

Answer: Dark

In addition, the dragon is also weak to Magic and Lightning. Because fighting it from a distance is typically a bad idea, grabbing a melee weapon with an appropriate Resin would be best to tackle this challenge.
5. Like his pals down at the Cave of the Dead, Ancient Soldier Varg is wearing the cosmetic set of a familiar face. Who is Varg dressed up as?

Answer: Havel

Despite wearing by far the heaviest set in the entire game, Varg is noticeably more mobile than his fellow gank-mates. Like Havel, he wields his signature Dragon Tooth to go with the complete armor set and the Havel's Greatshield.
6. Things can easily get out of hand when facing the Belfry Gargoyles, should the player become passive. What is the maximum amount of gargoyles which can spawn at a time?

Answer: Seven

A 7-on-1 with the limited amount of space in the boss room can overwhelm the player very easily. One gargoyle will begin the fight, and a new one will spawn every fifteen seconds until the maximum of seven is achieved. Given their low individual healthpools, the player would basically have to freely allow seven to spawn at once. Still, even just three or four could be enough to defeat the player, so getting complacent is not a good idea here.
7. While it might seem it, given his status as the DLC's final boss, there is more work to be done once the Burnt Ivory King is defeated. His men, the Charred Loyce Knights, can occasionally drop Loyce Souls. Just one of these does nothing. How many of them will the player need to collect to use them for something?

Answer: Fifty

After gathering fifty of these souls, they can be traded to Alsanna the Silent Oracle for the Soul of Alsanna. This soul can be brought to Weaponsmith Ornifex and converted into the Eleum Loyce curved sword.
8. Cerah the Old Explorer rounds off the third and final member of the Cave of the Dead triple boss fight. Like his fellows, the Afflicted Graverobber and Ancient Soldier Varg, he wears a cosmetic set of another NPC. Who does Cerah emulate?

Answer: Lucatiel of Mirrah

Wearing Lucatiel's mask, gauntlets and chest piece, Cerah may dress like Lucatiel, but his fighting style is in direct contrast. Rather than go toe to toe with an enemy using a greatshield and mace, Cerah will position himself in the back, far away from his two allies, and he will use the position to shoot the player with greatarrows fired off of an Alonne Greatbow. If the player gets in melee range with him, he will pull out a Rapier to defend himself.
9. The Congregation joins the Prowling Magus as a gank boss fight. The Congregation is a small group of basic enemies the player has fought in droves to this point. Which of the following is one enemy that makes up the Congregation?

Answer: Hollow

There are a total of five Hollows and two Clerics which band together to form the Congregation, their individual health bars contributing to one large health bar. "Large" is probably misleading, as each Hollow has a meager 200 HP and the Clerics have 300 apiece, making for a grand total of 1,600 that could be wiped out in two (potentially one) swings of a Greatsword.
10. Hanging overhead the Covetous Demon are several glass jars. Some of them have hollows in them. When shot, the hollow will fall to the ground. What happens here?

Answer: The demon will focus on the hollow

This was meant to be a distraction. In all of the demon's gluttonous glory, it will slither towards the hollow and devour it all while paying no mind to the player whatsoever. This gives the player plenty of time to get easy, uncontested hits on the demon... which they were probably already getting due to the demon's extreme sluggishness.
11. Losing to a boss is never fun, but it's particularly nasty if you lose to Darklurker due to the cost of re-entry to try again. In order to reach Darklurker, the player needs Dark Diver Grandahl's help, and he can only help if the player gives him an item each time they want to try the boss again. What item is this?

Answer: Human Effigy

A human effigy is needed not only to gain maximum health back which was lost by dying, but it's also needed for multiplayer play. There are only a limited amount of buyable Human Effigies, and if the player runs out of them, they'll have to cross their fingers and hope that a 0.5% drop rate off of Lost Bastille Dogs or a 1% drop rate off Rats at the Grave of Saints proves fruitful.

Making matters worse is that Darklurker is arguably the single hardest boss in the game. Dealing enough damage to two shot the player with any combo of attacks, Darklurker's ranged spells are to be feared. Worse yet, it can teleport across the arena on a whim and, at half health, it will split into two and create a second Darklurker for the player to contend with. It can be a rough fight made even rougher by its expensive fallout if the player loses.
12. In real-life nature, there are animals who may take on a certain subtle appearances to either fend off predators, or become a predator. The Demon of Song emulates such a concept, hiding inside of an impenetrable shell until ready to attack. Per the game's lore, what is the Demon of Song trying to eat?

Answer: The player's character

The Demon of Song is essentially trying to lure the player in, so that it can capture and consume the flesh of their character. Once it emerges from its shell, the creature resembles a giant skull and has large, skinny arms it will try to grab or attack with.
13. When traveling through Heide's Tower of Flame, it is actually possible to visibly spot the Dragonrider, one of the two bosses of the area, from outside his boss room, at a bird's eye glance. In fact, the Dragonrider happens to be within range of a Longbow or a Greatbow, and the player can shoot him with these weapons. Can the player kill him in this way?

Answer: No

They cannot kill Dragonrider, but he can be damaged like this. He can be brought all the way down to 1 HP left, making him an easy one shot once entering his boss room. This is quite the tedious process however, as there aren't any Greatbows available at this point of the game, so to use a Longbow at +10, it's highest possible level, with Fire Arrows (he is weak to Fire), it will still take roughly 225 shots to achieve this, or about twenty minutes of just standing there and constantly shooting him.

It could take more if the player is struggling to at least hit his chest, but it could take less if they can consistently hit headshots. Unfortunately, Crossbows and Shortbows will come up just short of having the range needed to hit him, making a Long or Greatbow necessary.
14. Elana the Squalid Queen's main gimmick is the ability to summon help, either in the form of a group of skeletons, small group of tiny pigs, or Velstadt the Royal Aegis. Can she summon two different types of allies at a time?

Answer: Yes

In what can be best described as player-made folklore, it became somewhat largely thought amongst the game's community that Elana cannot summon more than one type of enemy at once, be it a group of skeletons, pigs or Velstadt. It is true that Elana will wait much longer to summon more help if her first line of defense isn't dealt with, but if the fight drags on long enough, Elana can theoretically summon more and more help infinitely. Typically, a player would be best off eliminating all but one of the skeletons or pigs, and then quickly killing the last one if Elana tries to summon more help.
15. The Executioner's Chariot, evidenced by it's introductory cutscene when first approached, is intended to be dealt with by closing a gate to cause the chariot to crash and be directly approachable. A clever player might think to try and shoot the horse with spells or other forms of projectiles. Can this boss be defeated without pulling the lever to close the gate?

Answer: Yes

Although the process of achieving this is absurdly tedious, and the average player would never think to do it, the horse can be shot or attacked with any projectile the player has on hand. The horse can't actually be killed like this, but when it reaches 1 HP, the horse will collapse when making its next roundabout of the boss arena, and it will be hanging over a cliffside.

Here, the player can simply walk up to it and finish it off with any damaging method of their choice.
16. The Flexile Sentry's gimmick is that a small body of water covering its entire boss room will slowly rise, hindering the player's movement. At its peak, it will completely deny the ability to roll or sprint, only allowing extremely slow walking while the boss is unimpeded. How long does it take to reach this threshold?

Answer: Ten minutes

Ten minutes is an absurd amount of time for a boss that barely eclipses 3,000 total health. Even if the player had an unupgraded Broken Straight Sword at the bare minimum of 3 Strength needed to wield it, they would still only have to hit the boss three times a minute to kill it before the ten minutes pass.

It's therefore very obvious that From Software designed this mechanic with extremely 'safe' numbers, not wanting to risk it becoming oppressive against the average player.
17. Fume Knight is arguably the hardest boss in the entire game. If you wanted to remove the 'arguably' part, you could wear a very specific helm into the fight that prompts Fume Knight to enter his second phase right from the get go, rather than half health like he usually would. What helm is needed to trigger this behavior?

Answer: Velstadt's Helm

In the game's lore, Fume Knight rebelled against Drangleic as he had been serving as a top advisor and guard to King Vendrick up to that point. He duelled and was defeated by Velstadt the Royal Aegis, who subsequently banished him from Drangleic. Due to this, it's easy to see why Fume Knight would've developed a hatred for Velstadt, providing a clear reason for why he'd react to the player wearing the helm of Velstadt in such a way.
18. The Giant Lord is in an interesting boss in the game's narrative. As it happens, the player has already faced him. Or perhaps, it'd be accurate to say that the player technically will face him in the future. This other boss is the same guy as Giant Lord, but with a different name: who is it?

Answer: The Last Giant

The tutorial boss of the game is The Last Giant. Giant Lord, on the other hand, is scaled for end game, in the opposite end of the spectrum. They're the same person however, as to access Giant Lord, the player must use the Ashen Mist Heart to essentially travel back in time, before they killed The Last Giant, to fight his alternate identity, the Giant Lord.
19. The Guardian Dragon has actually been seen as a mini boss before appearing as the boss of Aldia's Keep. Where is it seen before this encounter?

Answer: Heide's Tower of Flame

Here, it is seen resting right in front of the boss room for the Old Dragonslayer. Ironically, this iteration is significantly more challenging than its boss variant, as the player must cross a thin passageway to approach it, and the dragon can easily incinerate the player with unavoidable fire breath, or knock the player off to their death entirely. On the other hand, there is no fall off during the boss fight, making it a lot less treacherous here.
20. The Looking Glass Knight's armor is highly resistant to Lightning, yet when targeted by a Lightning attack, he will not take resisted damage, instead taking neutral damage. Why is this?

Answer: It is raining

When a unit is covered in water, they become resistant to Fire but weak to Lightning. This boss is fought on a courtyard outside of Drangleic Castle, where it will constantly be pouring rain. The knight himself is wearing armor that would otherwise make him resistant to Lightning, but the rain removes this resistance completely.

However, as he leans heavily on Lightning attacks himself, he can exploit the player's makeshift weakness to the element frequently.
