Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Throne Watcher and Throne Defender are generic names, but the fighters themselves are anything but. They synergize nicely, and that's achieved with unique, standout equipment. For the Throne Defender, which of the following is true?

Answer: His shield has better absorptions than the Watcher

The Defender Shield is a magnificent shield, arguably the best in the entire game. It's absorptions are fairly sturdy, but it's efficiency is unmatched as it has high absorptions while also being very light, capable of parrying and having very low stat requirements. Even unupgraded, this shield is a very good choice for a build which can meet its modest prerequisites, which any build can do fairly easily.

The Watcher Shield, however, is significantly worse. It holds all of the same traits as the Defender Shield, only it's absorptions are much, much, much worse. It lacks 100% Physical Absorption, it's Magic absorption is merely average juxtaposed to the amazing 72% on the Defender Shield, and it's very close to the same weight.
2. The Throne Watcher serves as the main source of DPS for the 'Throne duo'. Where the Defender has sturdy defenses, the Watcher's sword is the main highlight, especially in the hands of the player. Which of the following is true about the Watcher's Greatsword?

Answer: It can buff itself

When two-handing the weapon, if the player presses the right-handed charge button or, typically the R2, instead of using a charged attack, they'll be able to buff the sword with a carbon copy of Aromatic Ooze at the expense of 10 of the weapon's 60 durability. This makes it the only weapon in the game capable of buffing without the need for a spell or consumable item.
3. Hex builds are well known for being dominant across most of "Dark Souls 2", but Velstadt the Royal Aegis' enormous resistance to Dark aims to throw a wrench in those plans. Not to worry, as he does have an exploitable weakness these builds can defer to. What is Velstadt's weakness?

Answer: Lightning

While there are very few actually decent Miracles, Hex builds naturally invest a lot into Faith, so even poor Miracles used off of what's probably going to be a high Faith stat can still work. Heavenly Lightning is probably the best choice, but Great Lightning Spear or using Sunlight Blade to buff a melee weapon with Lightning are good choices as well.
4. Defeating Vendrick can be quite the challenge. If the player pulls through, they can get one of three rewards, one being the Ruler's Sword. The Ruler's Sword easily has the most bizarre scaling in the entire game, perhaps the entirety of the franchise. What does the Ruler's Sword mainly scale off of?

Answer: Souls

The weapon receives a penalty to its damage output if the player does not have at least 300,000 souls on hand. After hitting this threshold, the weapon will begin to gain power until it hits its max at one million souls on hand. It should be noted that it does not interact with Soul Memory, but rather souls actually on the player's person. Because the player will need to walk around with a very high amount of souls, using the Ring of Life Protection would be a good idea to offer insurance in the event of an untimely death.
5. Alonne Captains are bigger, badder versions of Alonne Knights. How many appear in the Old Iron Keep?

Answer: Three

There will be one sitting right in front of the fog door used to fight the Smelter Demon, and another just off to his right hand side on the opposite end of a huge lava pool. The third one will be found standing in front of a handful of fire spewing statues right after the Pharros Lockstone door before the Belfry Sol bonfire.
6. After defeating The Duke's Dear Freya, the player earns the ability to properly confront the Duke of Tseldora. If you were expecting a climactic debate and/or duel of sorts here, you'll unfortunately be disappointed. What's happened to the Duke of Tseldora?

Answer: He's gone hollow

In an ironic twist, the Duke himself has gone hollow. He has clearly been hollow for a long time, as he had hollowed to the point of full mindlessness by the time the player finds him. Here, he can be fought and killed just before accessing the Primal Bonfire.
7. Elite Giants are said to be the very last of their kind, as there are only two in the entire game. They're both located in the same place. Where is this?

Answer: Black Gulch

They're essentially hibernating in a cave located deep on the cliffside of the incredibly dark Black Gulch. Finding this area without needing a third party is difficult due to low visibility. The player should go through Black Gulch normally until arriving upon the first Craggslipper. Here, it would be a good idea to use a Torch and peer over the edge of the cliff to see a very small platform the player can drop down on. They'll need to drop onto this one, then on one more below it to grab a key. This key will be needed to access the room with the Elite Giants, annoyingly right next to the highest platform the player had to pass by. They'll need to return to the bonfire and get back to that top platform the same way as before.

Once defeated, the Elite Giants will drop a Soul of a Giant along with the Forgotten Key, needed to access the "Crown of the Sunken King" DLC.
8. The Flame Salamander is the only mini boss to appear in the base game that later returned in the DLC. What DLC area does it appear in?

Answer: Memory of the Iron King

Featured in the "Crown of the Iron King" DLC pack, there are three Flame Salamanders which appear in the Memory of the Iron King. One of them can be skipped over without engaging, though the player should keep a quick eye on it while running over it and make sure to dodge a potential fireball it shoots.

The other two generally need to be dealt with for the most part, but are fairly easy due to them only staring down a linear hallway and never repositioning.
9. Insolent Knights are a fairly interesting enemy from a lore perspective. It's said that they're the resurrected remains of a group of knights that tried to destroy the Undead Crypt. Following their defeat, as punishment, they were sentenced to help defend the Undead Crypt, but it won't be forever. Why did the Grave Wardens show them mercy in that regard?

Answer: The knights thought what they were doing was right

According to lore, these knights were commissioned by an unknown leader to destroy the crypt. Apparently, this leader thought the crypt threatened the general safety of the people of Drangleic, which is proven to have been wrong. However, because the knights did genuinely believe they were doing the right thing, the Grave Wardens opted to release them one day.

However, the lore does imply that their servitude will last for quite a long time even if it won't be forever.
10. Lion Chieftains aren't too different from Lion Warriors, though there is one notable juxtaposition. Which of the following can Lion Chieftain do that a Warrior cannot?

Answer: Drop their armor as potential loot

Any Lion Warrior can drop their weapon, while none of them drop any ring. The Chieftain can potentially drop any particular piece of the Lion armor set. However, it isn't a guarantee, and because they're mini bosses, they will not respawn once killed.
