Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Given the name of the area, it shouldn't be too surprising that the Doors to Pharros have a lot of Pharros mechanisms. However, there's a bit of a twist to some of these mechanisms. Should the player attempt to activate all of them?

Answer: No

Some of them are trapped and will spawn enemies, trigger deadly traps, and more. Some of them can yield way to treasure, such as Petrified Dragon Bones, spells and more.
2. Royal Rat Authority is our boss for the Doors to Pharros. Is this boss required in order to advance?

Answer: No

The boss room is basically crammed off to the side of the area, and could easily be skipped if the player so chooses. It is only potentially needed if the player wants to join the Rat King Covenant, but they could also go fight the Royal Rat Vanguard to achieve this. As such, this fight is not required to do anything other than earn the boss soul associated with it.
3. The Santier's Spear can be found in the Doors of Pharros, and it is possibly the quirkiest weapon in this game. In order to unlock its full potential, what must the player do with it?

Answer: Break it

When broken, the large boulder stuck in the center of the spear will shatter. This makes the weapon significantly lighter, hit much harder and, arguably most notably, gives it functionally infinite durability.
4. If the player finds themselves struggling with bosses such as Smelter Demon, Old Iron King or another fire related boss, grinding for a specific greatshield in Doors of Pharros could be worth it. What shield can be found here?

Answer: Gyrm Greatshield

The Gyrm Greatshield is notable for being the only shield in the game to naturally have 100% Fire absorption. The only other shield that can achieve this at all is the Rebel Greatshield, which mandates a Fire infusion to do so. As such, it would be quite helpful used to fight Fire related bosses.
5. Once the player reaches Brightstone Cave Tseldora, they'll happen upon a camp of Falconers and find an NPC summon sign. Who does this sign belong to?

Answer: Benhart of Jugo

Benhart will be summoned wielding his signature Bluemoon Greatsword. He can be quite helpful for the upcoming trek, as the player will frequently find themselves outnumbered.
6. Who is our first boss of Brightstone Cave Tseldora?

Answer: Prowling Magus & Congregation

This might just be the strangest boss From Software ever developed. Here we have an Aldia Warlock, three clerics and four hollows, bunched into one and called a boss fight. None of the enemies involved have more than 600 HP and will go down very quickly.
7. The first boss of Brightstone Cave Tseldora drops peculiar loot. When defeated, what does the player receive?

Answer: A Titanite Slab

A Titanite Slab sure is useful, but this is still one of just two bosses in the entire game to not have a boss soul. The other one is Aldia, Scholar of the First Sin, who is arguably the most important character to the narrative in the entire game. This is a random spellcaster and a bunch brainless zombies. Why they got this special treatment is perplexing indeed.
8. Cromwell the Pardoner can be found after Tseldora's first boss is slain. He performs a very specific service. What can he do?

Answer: Make hostile NPCs forgive the player

If the player has attacked and prompted an otherwise friendly NPC to become hostile, Cromwell can make this NPC friendly again. This is the only way to undo NPC aggression. Cromwell is incapable of resurrecting dead NPCs, just making them friendly again. Predictably, if Cromwell himself is agroed via player aggression, he will permanently remain in this state due to the fact he won't be able to remove it from himself.
9. Once the player advances through Tseldora past a group of mining hollows, they'll enter a dark building and find a locked metal door on their right. The player won't be able to open this yet, but if they come back later and do, they'll find a fan favorite weapon from "Dark Souls 1". What weapon?

Answer: Black Knight Greataxe

Strangely, this weapon deals split Physical/Fire damage in this game. It does not do this in either of the other two games in the trilogy. Unfortunately, this cannot be removed in anyway as the weapon cannot be infused with anything.
10. The Duke's Dear Freja is the final boss of Brightstone Cave Tseldora. Freja has an army of spiders at her beck and call, so the player may want to counter with their own NPC summons. Which of the following is one of three NPCs they can summon for this fight?

Answer: Manhunter O'Harrah

O'Harrah was an effective albeit extremely inconsistent option for help with the Old Iron King. She is much more reliable here, given that it's harder to fall off the edge. As well, she is capable of consistently hitting Freja's weak spot with her Alonne Greatbow, which can be useful.

Along with O'Harrah, Ashen Knight Boyd and Bashful Ray are potential options for NPC assistance.
11. There is a bit of a twist when fighting The Duke's Dear Freja: she only takes damage if struck in a very certain part of her body. What part?

Answer: Head

Attacking any other part of Freja's body will see the weapon clank off to no effect. Freja has two heads, and if one is attacked enough, it will fall off and force the player to attack the other one.
12. Once The Duke's Dear Freja has been slain, the player can unravel a plot twist and discover the true culprit behind the fall of Tseldora by advancing just a little further. Who did it?

Answer: The Duke of Tseldora

In the game's lore, the Duke of Tseldora became fascinated by these spiders to the point of intentionally welcoming them into his city, only to see it get basically obliterated. Shortly after Freja's boss room is the Lord's Private Chamber, where a hollowed iteration of the duke can be found and slain for the player to claim another Primal Bonfire.
13. If you enjoy PvP but have decided to hate other players, you may find value out of the spell earned from the Royal Rat Authority boss soul. What spell is this?

Answer: Acid Surge

Acid Surge does zero damage, instead afflicting victims with 18 points of durability damage to all of their gear. 18 is a lot, and just a few hits with this spell could conceivably completely destroy the opponent's gear. Predictably, this became a common tactic for later game invaders to employ.
14. The Duke's Dear Freja's soul can be turned into one of two weapons. One of them, a curved sword, directly draws from Freja's power by allowing the player to use it to shoot spider webs to slow foes down. What weapon is this?

Answer: Spider's Silk

This is a costly unique skill, depleting the weapons durability by ten points per usage. It does have broad application, however, as slowing opponents down even briefly is useful and can get the player out of a tight spot. It doesn't work on most bosses, however.
15. If The Duke's Dear Freja is defeated on New Game Plus, it also drops a Paledrake Soul. This soul is the soul which can be converted into one of the most iconic weapons in From Software history. What weapon is this?

Answer: Moonlight Greatsword

While it could also be converted into the Crystal Soul Spear sorcery, it would be a travesty to have an opportunity to add such a legendary weapon to the player's inventory and balk at the chance to do so. It requires an 18 in Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence to wield, and is the only melee weapon in the game to exclusively deal Magic damage with zero Physical.

It gets an A scaling in Magic that can be made an S with a Magic infusion.
