2. What Minnesota town has marked the start of US Highway 61 since 1990?

From Quiz Cruising the Mississippi on Highway 61

Answer: Wyoming

Since 1990, the northern start of Highway 61 has been in Wyoming, a town about 35 miles north-northeast of Minneapolis. The highway starts at where US 61 intersects with Interstate 35. Wyoming is located along the Sunshine River, in Chisago County. Pigeon River was the northern terminus of US Highway 61 from 1926 until the 1960s. It is 270 miles north of Wyoming, in the northeast tip of the state, and lies right on the US-Canadian border. At one point, Route 61 did go through Duluth, the birthplace of legendary folk singer Bob Dylan. He recorded "Highway 61 Revisited," widely regarded as one of the greatest albums in Rock and Roll history, which contains both "Like A Rolling Stone" and "Desolation Row." Winona is located about 115 miles southeast of Minneapolis, right along the Mississippi River. Route 61 does pass through it.

3. What Massachusetts city is the starting point for US Highway 6?

From Quiz Let's Travel on US Highway 6

Answer: Provincetown

Route 6 begins in Provincetown, travels along the Cape Cod National Seashore, and passes through Fall River before leaving Massachusetts near Seekonk. Provincetown lies at the tip of Cape Cod. It was settled in 1700 and established as a town in 1727. While the year round population is small, in the summers the resort town greatly expands. It's historical claim to fame is that the Mayflower Compact was signed in Provincetown Harbor. Plymouth is best known as the landing place for the Pilgrims in 1620. Fall River is probably best remembered for the Borden murders of 1892. Boston is the state capitol of Massachusetts. Several US Highways begin in Boston, including US 20 and Interstate 90.

4. Its best known segment is referred to as "The Great White Way", and it runs through the premier theater district in America. What street is it?

From Quiz Notable USA City Thoroughfares

Answer: Broadway

Primarily in New York City, Broadway runs for 33 miles from Battery Park at the southern tip of Manhattan, through Midtown and the Upper West Side, out of Manhattan and through The Bronx, finally ending outside city limits in Westchester County. The famous theater district is the stretch around Times Square in Midtown where it crosses Seventh Avenue and runs between 42nd Street and 53rd Street. Here are the scores of theaters and millions of marquee lights which inspired its other name of the "Great White Way". As that classic crooner Mr. Sinatra sang, "If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere. It's up to you, New York New York".

15. Which president is credited with the creation of the U.S. Interstate Highway System?

From Quiz From California to Carolina

Answer: Dwight D. Eisenhower

In 1919, as a young Lieutenant Colonel, Eisenhower traveled from Washington D.C. to San Francisco with the first Army transcontinental motor convoy. The purpose of the convoy was to test the mobility of the military during wartime conditions. The trip took 62 days. Later, Eisenhower was impressed with the efficiency of Germany's autobahn network of "superhighways". Funding for the current interstate system came from the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956.

16. The New Jersey Turnpike runs roughly parallel to this older highway. It was constructed in order to ease the traffic problems on this old road.

From Quiz The New Jersey Turnpike: What Exit?

Answer: 1 & one

U.S. Route 1 in New Jersey is a portion of the United States Highway 1 which runs along the East Coast of the United States, stretching 2390 miles from Florida to Maine. In New Jersey, it runs 66.1 miles from the state capital in Trenton, paralleling Interstate 95 and the New Jersey Turnpike, heading northeast to the George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee. By the 1930s, US 1 (and US 130 south of New Brunswick), had so much traffic that the state of New Jersey considered the construction of a superhighway along this corridor. In response, proposals were developed to construct a 12-lane superhighway from Boston to Washington.

17. Interstate 59's southern terminus is near which city?

From Quiz Interstate 59

Answer: Slidell, Louisiana

The first 11 miles of I-59 lie within Saint Tammany Parish. The freeway begins at the junction of two other mainline interstate freeways at its southern terminus--Interstate 10, which brings traffic into Slidell from both New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast (including Bay St. Louis and Gulfport) and Interstate 12, which runs from Slidell to Baton Rouge. I-12 crosses I-55 at Hammond, midway between Slidell and Baton Rouge.

18. What is the official name of the New York state Thruway?

20. The southern end of Interstate 85 is located in Montgomery, Alabama. At which other interstate highway does I-85 begin?

21. Interstate 5 - North limit: SR-14 south of Santa Clarita and north of San Fernando; South limit: East Los Angeles Interchange (where I-5, I-10, SR-60, and US-101 meet).

22. What was the original name of what is now called the Dwight D. Eisenhower National System of Interstate and Defense Highways?

From Quiz Eisenhower US Interstate System

Answer: National System of Interstate and Defense Highways

The Eisenhower Interstate System was founded to provide a systematic grid of highways throughout the US. The system includes all interstates in the contiguous 48 states and the 3 interstates in Hawaii. There are also interstates in Alaska and Puerto Rico, and they are officially part of the Eisenhower Interstate System, but this is only on paper as there is nowhere along the road that has interstate shields to say that it is an interstate. For information on the interstates, a good site to visit is www.interstate-guide.com.

30. It's not Broadway, it's Broad STREET, and it's considered the longest straight urban boulevard in the United States, as well as one of the oldest. Where is this venerable north-south arterial located?

From Quiz Notable USA City Thoroughfares

Answer: Philadelphia

Broad Street runs straight for thirteen miles, from the Navy Yard and the stadiums deep in South Philadelphia to the edge of Montgomery County at the city's northern edge. It bisects the city between its two major rivers, the Delaware and the Schuylkill, taking a minor detour around the massive City Hall complex in center city at Market Street. Broad Street is noted for its annual ten mile run, which starts at Central High School in the north and finishes inside the Navy Yard. In 2007 Patrick Cheruiyot set a record for the fastest ten mile time ever recorded in the USA; 45 minutes, fourteen seconds. The speed of the straight, slight downhill, smooth surface course makes it extremely popular among elite distance runners. Broad Street also encompasses Philadelphia's main theater and classical music venues in center city and runs through Temple University in North Philadelphia.
