Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'Right as Rain' is a track from the album '19', the debut of which of these one name singers?

Answer: Adele

Adele Laurie Blue Adkins released her first album in 2008, following it up in 2011 with '21'. Although the singles released from the first album did well, especially 'Chasing Pavements', those from the second did even better. She achieved world wide success, including Billboard Hot 100 number ones, with 'Rolling in the Deep', 'Someone Like You' and 'Set Fire to the Rain'. Adele also wrote and recorded the theme tune to the 2012 James Bond film 'Skyfall'.
2. Richard Marx hit the top of the charts in 1989 when he was 'Right Here' doing what?

Answer: Waiting

'Right Here Waiting' was Richard's biggest hit in the UK, reaching number two on the Singles Chart. He has had much more success in his home country of America, with several number one hits on the US Billboard Hot 100, including 'Right Here Waiting'. Although Richard's greatest period of chart success came in the late 1980s and 1990s, he was still recording in the early part of the twenty-first century.

He also claimed success as a songwriter and producer for acts including Luther Vandross and Keith Urban.
3. 'Walk Right Back' was a 1961 hit for which of these?

Answer: Everly Brothers

All the artistes listed had hits around this time, but it was Don and Phil Everly who took 'Walk Right Back' to the top of the UK Singles Chart. On the other side of the record (remember those days?) was 'Ebony Eyes', but the BBC refused to play it as they considered it too morbid. Consquently, 'Walk Right Back', which was originally the 'B' side, was played on the radio, although the Guinness Book of Hit Singles lists the record as a 'double A' side.

The song was just one of numerous hits, especially in the UK, for the duo.
4. Norman Cook released 'Right Here, Right Now' in 1999 under which name?

Answer: Fatboy Slim

All the options listed are Norman Cook ventures. He began his career with The Housemartins, who had two big hits in 1986 with 'Happy Hour' and 'Caravan of Love. Cook then formed Beats International and had a hit with 'Dub Be Good to Me' in 1990. Fatboy Slim became his new persona in 1996 and had numerous UK hit singles, with 'Right Here, Right Now' reaching number two on the Singles Chart.

The Brighton Port Authority was formed in 2008 with David Byrne, formerly of Talking Heads, and Dizzee Rascal.
5. In 1983 Eurythmics wanted to be 'Right' where?

Answer: By your Side

'Right By Your Side' was written by the band members Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart. It reached number ten on the UK Singles Chart and number twenty-nine on the US Billboard Hot 100. The follow up was 'Here Comes the Rain Again', which was even more successful. Annie then went on to major success as a solo artist with songs such as 'Walking on Broken Glass' and 'No More I Love Yous' to her credit.
6. Free had a huge hit in the 1970s with which of these titles?

Answer: All Right Now

'All Right Now' featured David Kossoff on guitar and Paul Rodgers on vocals, and was a massive hit for the band. Rodgers then went on to sing with Bad Company whose hits included 'Feel Like Making Love' in 1975. Since 2004, Paul has sung periodically with former Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor as 'Queen + Paul Rodgers', performing Queen hits. 'It's Alright' is a song title used by many acts, including East17, Jay-Z, Pet Shop Boys and Ricky Martin. 'Right Said Fred' was a 1962 hit for comedian Bernard Cribbens, remembered for inspiring the name of the 1980s band. 'Am I Right?' was one of Erasure's songs.
7. Carly Simon's 'The Right Thing to Do' came from her 1972 album 'No Secrets', which also featured which of these songs?

Answer: You're So Vain

All the songs listed were released as singles, but 'You're So Vain' was the only one to reach number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. 'Nobody Does it Better' was the theme tune to the 1977 James Bond film 'The Spy Who Loved Me' and 'Coming Around Again' was a hit in 1986. 'Mockingbird' was a duet with her then husband, James Taylor, and charted in 1974.
8. The Honeycombs 1964 hit 'Have I the Right?' was produced by which man?

Answer: Joe Meek

Joe Meek was one of the most innovative record producers of his time, and was also responsible for the huge hit 'Telstar' by The Tornados. 'Have I the Right?' was by far the biggest hit for The Honeycombs, reaching the number one position on the UK Singles Chart and number five on the US Billboard Hot 100. Phil Spector was an American producer, best known for his 'wall of sound'. George Martin was the producer of the early albums by The Beatles, and Alan Parsons also worked at Abbey Road Studios.
9. Gerry Rafferty's song 'Right Down the Line' came from his solo album 'City to City'. With which band did he find success?

Answer: Stealer's Wheel

'City to City' also spawned Rafferty's huge hit 'Baker Street' although the song did not actually reach number one in either the USA or UK. 'Right Down the Line' was the follow up, and failed to chart in the UK, although it did manage number twelve on the US Billboard Hot 100. Stealer's Wheel's big hit was 'Stuck in the Middle with You' from 1972, which received a second lease of life when it was featured in the film 'Reservoir Dogs' in 1992.
10. 2009 saw 'All the Right Moves' hit the charts for which American band?

Answer: OneRepublic

OneRepublic were formed in 2002 and originally made their name by placing their music on the social networking site Myspace, before being signed by a record label. 'All the Right Moves' achieved number eighteen on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number twenty-six on the UK Singles Chart. One Direction only formed in 2010 and are British. 'N Sync and Backstreet Boys were around a decade earlier.
