I think a clue came earlier when Maddie called out to him, and he said "that's still my name". I thought "yeah, for now". Maddie and Daniel agreed to keep watch on him.

Near the end, he told her their boat was sinking, and more or less tricked her into revealing their approximate location. He'd already found out too much about their situation. He claimed it was just he, his brother, and sister-in-law left on their boat, but it seemed unlikely. His last words to her, which sounded ominous to any fan of this world, were "It's okay Alicia. I got you. I'll see ya soon".

"Talking Dead"- the capsized boat at the end of the episode was called the Leanne.
