Character Profile: John Dorie Trivia Quiz

Answer: A revolver

John Dorie has a pair of revolvers with the initials J.D. on them. He was given them by his father who abandoned him. When John's wife June later runs into her father-in-law, John Dorie, Sr. immediately recognizes the revolver she carries as his own - he is the J.D. in the initials.

Answer: As "the passed"

While a variety of terms have been used for the zombie creatures in "Fear the Walking Dead," John typically refers to them as "the passed."

John is fan of popcorn and toffee candy and has spent a great deal of time watching movies while alone at his cabin. He takes the movies from a local bait store that used to rent them and even continues to sign his name out on the sheet.

Answer: ugly mustard

John grew up in Nagodoches, Texas. His grandfather, who worked in a delicatessen, used to say "That's some ugly mustard" to describe a particular messy or difficult situation. At one point, Morgan uses the phrase, having picked it up from John.

John often spells his last name for others in reference to the John Dory fish, but with an -ie instead of a y. The John Dory is also known as St Pierre or Peter's Fish, and as it just so happens, Dorie enjoys fishing as a hobby.

Answer: Police officer

John Dorie was a police officer before the apocalypse, and he is haunted by the time he killed a man. The man was an armed robber, but the event still drove John to isolate himself from society and retreat into a remote cabin where he was living when the apocalypse began.

Answer: Morgan

John makes his first appearance in season 4, episode 1 and is played by Garret Dillahunt. In the episode, John engages in a soliloquy about his own backstory and about not being accustomed to his own voice and invites the stranger to reveal himself. Morgan eventually emerges from the shadows, and John asks, "So what's your story?"

Answer: Humbug's Gulch

John Dorie worked at one of the Humbug's Gulch theme parks as a trick-shot artist. In season 5, John takes June to the park, and there they encounter Dwight. John ends up using one of his trick shot moves when he nearly runs out of ammo fighting off a bunch of zombies.

Answer: Junebug

John used the endearment Junebug several times, including in the final letter he wrote to his wife: "And if I die, I die knowing I lived a life worth living. And a nurse named June was the light guiding my way. I love you, Junebug. Forever." The contents of the letter are revealed when June reads it aloud over his cross by the cabin in season 6, episode 13, "J.D."

Answer: A candy wrapper

John is known for offering people candy when he meets them. He offers one to Morgan when they first run into each other. He seems to have gotten a stash of it at the start of the apocalypse. He weaves one of the wrappers into a ring for June, though they eventually get real wedding rings.

Answer: Ranger

Virginia eventually gave John the trusted position of Ranger. As such, he was tasked with keeping order and was eventually given a golden key to represent that he had a higher position of authority than many other rangers. Victor was also made one of Virginia's rangers.

Answer: Dakota

John had been investigating what he believed to be a murder case. He found a piece of a knife he thought to be the murder weapon, and later saw that knife on Dakota, at which point he realized she was the killer. Dakota, knowing John had discovered her crime, shot him. He fell over a bridge and into the water below and died before his body reached the shore.
