Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the beginning of the episode, Bart is working on a science project. What type of vegetable is involved?

Answer: Potato

The episode opens with Homer mowing the lawn with a motorless push mower. Fed up with the job, he tells Marge that it should be Bart's chore since he's worked hard enough for the week. Marge notes that Bart would be doing it, but he has a science project to work on. Upstairs, Bart sits at his desk reading a comic book. Every once in a while, he checks on his experiment, a single potato, and continues to note that the his potato is, in fact, still a potato. Next door, Flanders starts chatting over the fence with a clearly irate Homer.

When Marge notes that they're all out of beer, Flanders invites Homer into his 'rumpus room' for a beer, straight from the keg), and Homer is shocked to find that Flanders' basement is actually quite nice.
2. According to Homer in this episode, for how long have he and Ned been neighbours?

Answer: Eight years

Flanders says that it's been unfortunate that Homer hasn't come down to see the place since the Simpsons moved in and Homer notes that it's only been eight years. Maude brings the guys some sandwiches and while Ned thanks her, Homer emphasizes the fact that he was brought down into Flanders' rumpus room for a beer. Ned serves Homer a beer from Holland straight out of the tap while Todd, Ned's son, comes downstairs to thank his dad for helping make his science project (a replica of a strand of DNA). Homer is shocked and tells Flanders that he's simply flaunting his nice wife, loving son, and imported beer to show off, so Ned politely asks him to leave. Homer finishes off his beer, takes a sandwich, and departs.
3. Ned Flanders has Reverend Lovejoy's phone number programmed into his speed dial.

Answer: True

That night, Homer hears only what he wants to hear from Marge who tells Homer that in all the time living at their house, Ned has been a seemingly 'perfect' neighbour. Frustrated, Homer goes for a walk around the block to clear his head. Ned, next-door, tosses and turns in bed as well since he's so concerned with the way he politely asked Homer to leave. Maude suggests that he call Reverend Lovejoy for an answer and he quickly does, waking up Helen and the Reverend in the process. Lovejoy is less-than-thrilled and simply tells Ned to provide a 'gentle answer'. Ned thinks this is a great idea and decides to write a letter to Homer. Before he can slip it under the door, however, Homer returns home from his walk and intercepts him.

The next morning, Homer and Bart have a good laugh about the letter over breakfast.
4. After receiving Flanders' letter, Homer decides to take the family to the miniature golf course and then to get which of these?

Answer: Frosty chocolate milkshakes

While Homer reads out Flanders' letter at the breakfast table, Marge is shocked at her husband's lack of consideration for their neighbour's feelings...at least until she leaves the room and has a little laugh of her own. When she returns, she says that she wishes their family was as close as the Flanders'. Homer decides to amend the situation with a round of mini-golf and some frosty chocolate milkshakes. Only Bart has the free time, so they head out with Maggie in tow. While Maggie has her own adventures around the course, Bart and Homer play a round (Bart skillfully wins while Homer has a hard time). Flanders, who's also at the course with Todd, decides to follow up on his letter.
5. How much money does the winner of the mini-golf tournament win?

Answer: $50

The Flanders duo speaks with the Simpsons duo and they find themselves playing in a four-man game where Tod and Bart lead. Tod even gives Homer some helpful advice on how to win some shots, but it doesn't really help. At the end of the course, Tod spots a sign for a mini-golf tournament in which the winner gets $50. Homer essentially forces Bart into it claiming that his son could beat Todd any day of the week. Homer whisks Bart off for his milkshakes and although Bart doesn't think he can win (having never won anything in his life), Homer tells him that it is not okay for him to lose.
6. What turns out to be the name of Bart's golf club?

Answer: Charlene

Homer forces Bart to practice at home in the backyard using Santa's Little Helper as an obstacle and shooting the ball through his legs. As Homer begins giving Bart any advice he can (good or bad), Marge and Lisa watch from the windows. Bart heads into his room and Homer watches as he simply tosses the golf club to the floor.

He tells Bart that this simply won't do- the golf club is to the mini-golfer what a bat is to a baseball player. To amend the situation, he tells Bart to name the club to which he says 'Mr. Putter' and 'Mom'. Homer names the object for him: Charlene. Homer then tacks up a picture of Todd in Bart's room and tells his son to spend fifteen minutes a day staring at it picturing his glorious victory over the Flanders.
7. Where does Lisa take Bart to hone his putting skills?

Answer: The library

Marge talks to Homer in the kitchen about 'warping this son's mind' for the sake of a golf tournament while Homer shows little concern at all. In fact, Homer says that it's their one chance to show up the Flanders family. Lisa, meanwhile, tells Bart that she can help him and they take a trip to the library to pick up a number of books on putting. Lisa's idea is to get Bart to open his mind to clear it of thought so he can have a cleaner putt.

She succeeds and the two of them find the ins and outs of the course until Bart can hit excellent shots at every hole.
8. Whose idea is it to mow the winning father's lawn as a result of the bet placed on the putting tournament?

Answer: Ned

Homer and Flanders soon rile each other up a bit much. Homer accuses Flanders of being a chicken and the two place down the rules of a bet, signing a contract and getting Marge to witness it. As a result, the father of the boy who wins the putting tournament needs to mow the other father's lawn in their wife's Sunday dress. Flanders, upon leaving the Simpson house, is shocked at his own behavior.
At the mini-golf course, Homer tries to instruct the boy, but Bart finds it too hard to concentrate with him yelling all the time.
Homer spends the night figuring out which of Marge's dresses looks better on himself.
9. What does Lisa suggest Bart eat for breakfast on the day of the tournament?

Answer: Oatmeal

On the morning of the tournament, Homer wakes Bart up after spending the night sitting at the foot of his bed. Lisa interrupts her father after he tells Bart that he has to win the game. During breakfast, Lisa drills Bart with facts about the golf course and Marge begins to serve a hearty breakfast. Lisa tries to stop her saying that Bart needs a regimented breakfast of complex carbohydrates (like he would get from oatmeal). Homer tells the boy to eat up since he's not a horse. At the tournament, it finally comes down to the end- Simpson vs. Flanders. Lisa wishes Bart good luck while Homer interrupts the Flanders' circle of prayer before the game.
10. Which boy wins the mini-golf tournament?

Answer: Both boys forfeit and call a draw

The final game begins and the boys shoot nearly shot-for-shot with one another while the fathers chant from the sidelines. As the boys come to the final hole, they both take a shot and find themselves evenly matched in pretty much every way. Rather than take the shot, both boys call a draw since they're on even ground.

The commentators check their rule pamphlet and announce that the game has ended with a tie. Both boys win $25 each on very large cheques. Flanders is proud of the boys but Homer wants to fulfill the stipulations of the bet. Since neither boy actually won, the two of them don their wives' dresses and mow the other father's lawn...in front of the rest of the neighbourhood.
