Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the beginning of the episode, many citizens of Springfield gather to watch the unveiling of a warning sign created in case of what disaster?

Answer: Nuclear meltdown

Mayor Quimby dedicates the sign early on in the episode, informing the townspeople that the banner will inform them all if anything good or bad is occurring within the Springfield Nuclear Plant in regards to their safety. As they demonstrate the different messages, the people in the crowd get more and more worried but Homer and the other workers simply laugh. If there were a core explosion, there would be no way to power the sign.
Unfortunately, Mr. Burns hasn't arrived for the dedication.
2. What condition does Mr. Burns allegedly have in this episode?

Answer: hypohemia

When Smithers checks in on Mr. Burns he finds him sprawled on the floor next to his bed. Smithers says he'll call the hospital, but Burns refuses before falling unconscious. Dr. Hibbert gives a diagnosis: hypohemia. To put it simply, Mr. Burns does not have enough blood in his body.

At this point the only cure would be a transfusion and they need OO- blood to perform it; Smithers offers but he has B+. The next day, Smithers announces to the employees that they need a donation and a Bloodmobile is waiting outside. Homer decides to cash in.
3. Homer's blood type is OO-, the same as Mr. Burns.

Answer: False

When Homer heads home to get his facts straight he asks Marge for his blood type. It turns out that he has A+ blood, which isn't a match for Mr. Burns unfortunately. Lisa is surprised that Marge knows Homer's blood type, but as the matriarch of the family she needs to know everything from shoe sizes to teeth counts.

When Homer tells Marge about the blood deal, he says that no one at the plant has OO- blood. It turns out, however, that Bart does. Marge urges him to help since it's the decent thing to do, especially when a life is on the line. Homer says that Burns will likely shower him in riches, which is the real point of all of this.
4. Who ends up working for the Bloodmobile?

Answer: Otto

Homer brings Bart to the plant to visit the Bloodmobile and they find none other than Otto working underneath it; he works on the school bus when he's needed, but then moonlights as a Bloodmobile tech guy. He uses a moist toilette to wash up before taking the blood and it's rushed to the hospital posthaste. Burns, fearing that death is imminent, asks Smithers to write out his epitaph as he dictates it and, as he's given the blood, he ends up becoming rejuvenated.

The next day he's back in fighting shape and mingling with the employees.
5. What does Mr. Burns initially send to Bart as a thank you for his help?

Answer: A card

Mr. Burns, now full of pep, decides that it's only right to send the boy who gave him his blood a token of his gratitude. Said gratitude arrives in the mail that week and Homer, fishing through the bills, comes across it and has the family gather for the celebration.

They head out to the yard so that the neighbours can see, but it turns out to be for nothing-- inside the envelope is a note saying "Dear Bart, thank you kindly for the blood. Yours truly, Montgomery Burns." Suffice to say, Homer is not thrilled. Marge, on the other hand, thinks that they got what they deserved: gratitude for saving another human being's life.
6. Which of the following insults does not appear in Homer's note to Mr. Burns?

Answer: He's as bald as a bowling ball

Homer, in frustration, dictates his own letter to Mr. Burns and has Bart write it out. The letter contains the following:
"Dear Mr. Burns-- I'm so glad you enjoyed my son's blood and your card was just great. In case you can't tell, I'm being sarcastic. You stink! You are a senile, buck-toothed old mummy with bony girl-arms, and you smell like an elephant's butt."
That evening, Marge is able to convince Homer to sleep on it and he ends up not sending the letter despite his rage. When he wakes up, he has no inclination to send the note. Ironically, Bart has already dropped it off in the mailbox.
7. The rude letter is mailed to Mr. Burns. What does Homer nearly do to prevent it from getting delivered?

Answer: Soak the inside of the mailbox with a hose

Homer tears apart the kitchen looking for the misplaced letter but can't find it... that is until Bart comes in and says he placed it into the mailbox for him. Homer's first reaction is to strangle the boy, but since the mail is picked up at noon there's enough time to reach into the box and get it back.

This plan fails when he can't reach it. Plan B, kicking the box open, also fails. Plan C is even worse-- Homer plans to stick a hose into the mailbox and make the ink run, no matter what the cost to the rest of the mail.

The mail lady catches him doing this and, even though she knows his name and address, he decides to run away.
8. Does Homer ever get his rude letter back before Mr. Burns can read it?

Answer: No

Burns, still on a high from his rejuvenating experience, starts to get ideas about how to capitalize on his struggles with hypohemia, ultimately settling on writing an autobiographical account. Meanwhile, Homer decides to go directly to the post office to get the letter. Walking up to the counter he pretends to be Mr. Burns but fails to collect it when he doesn't know his boss' first name.

Instead, he decides to go into Mr. Burns' office and take the letter directly. Burns catches Homer and gets a name out of him so, finding the letter he wrote, he opens it and reads it out loud. Homer is led off the premises by a security guard while Burns vows revenge.
9. Who convinces Mr. Burns not to have Homer beaten up?

Answer: Smithers

Revenge is on Burns' mind and shortly after having Homer escorted off the premises he signs the pink slip, terminating his employment. He also insists that Homer be beaten to a pulp. Homer tells Marge that she can always move in with Patty and Selma and raise the kids while he goes off and dies in a gutter. Bart, listening from the living room, realizes that he may have destroyed the family. Smithers, worried about the revenge issue, is tasked with having the guards beat up Homer but he can't bring himself to give the order since Bart saved Mr. Burns' life.

He tells the truth to Mr. Burns and Burns reneges on his decision.
10. As a reward for all that they've done, Mr. Burns buys the Simpsons an oversized replica of what?

Answer: A head

Burns, now a bit happy and zany, goes to the Springfield Mall to buy the Simpson family a present and, at a store called Plunderer Pete's, he finds what he's looking for-- a $32,000 conversation piece by the name of Xtapolapocetl. When it's left in the family room of the Simpson household, Bart opens it to find a gigantic Olmec Indian head carved by Meso-American Indians. Homer wonders what it does.

It doesn't do much. Burns also leaves a pre-release copy of his new book, "Will There Ever Be a Rainbow?". Marge tells the family that "a good deed is its own reward." Technically though, the head was a reward, so "no good deed goes unrewarded". Technically though, Homer only got the Olmec head because he wrote the nasty letter. Perhaps there is no moral... just a bunch of stuff that happened.
