Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Geordi is walking down a corridor en route to the holodeck, but as he's about to activate the program from the wall panel, his hand begins trembling.

Answer: Identity Crisis

At the outset of the episode, Geordi and his friend, Commander Leitjen, feared they might end up suffering the same fate as their former crewmates following their away mission down on Tarchannen III. And they would be right, as Leitjen is the first to experience the hand shaking and fused-finger symptoms.

Then later, once Geordi is determined to get some concrete answers from the video log, he heads down to the holodeck. He's about to input the controls to activate his program from the wall panel when his hand starts trembling, with the other symptoms surfacing upon seeing his holographic re-creation of the rather spooky, clay-like image of one of the Tarchannen III lifeforms.
2. The Enterprise welcomes aboard a woman whom the crew initially believes to be a Vulcan dignitary, but by the end of the episode, the woman turns out to be a Romulan spy.

Answer: Data's Day

One of the main events occurring in this episode about a day in the life of the Enterprise's resident android is the arrival of the Vulcan ambassador T'Pel, who is to negotiate with the Romulans. Data personally escorts her to the Turbolift and visits her later in crew quarters when she attempts to extract tactical information about the Enterprise from him.

However, following an initially inexplicable accident where T'Pel supposedly dies during her transport over to the Romulan ship, the ambassador is soon revealed to be a Romulan herself, as seen on the main viewscreen when Picard is speaking to the Romulan captain about the incident moments later.

It's determined T'Pel, surgically altered to appear Vulcan, was in fact a spy for one of the Federation's primary enemies.
3. Worf enters the holodeck to find that a group of crewmembers have re-created a special ceremony for him where he must endure the torment of Klingon pain sticks.

Answer: The Icarus Factor

While the other three episodes were Klingon-themed, the special Klingon ceremony commemorating the anniversary of the security chief's Age Of Ascension is featured as the side-story in "The Icarus Factor". After realizing that Worf didn't have any Klingons on the ship in which to celebrate the anniversary with, Wesley, along with the help of Geordi, Data, Dr. Pulaski and Chief O'Brien, re-creates the ceremony on the holodeck, complete with a formal gathering hall, burning torches and menacing-looking Klingons standing in rows on opposite sides of the hall's main aisle.

As Worf walks past each pair of Klingons, yelling out confessions from his heart in his people's robust language, he is struck with the glowing red balls of the trademark pain sticks.

Despite the agony he clearly suffers, Worf manages to make it all the way down the aisle, demonstrating the true strength of a Klingon warrior.
4. A civilian inside crew quarters aboard the Enterprise is doing push-ups on the floor when an alien chasing a Starfleet officer race inside; moments later, the same alien and officer are fighting inside different quarters while a couple there is dining together.

Answer: The Next Phase

One of the more humorous scenes in this episode occurs when the out-of-phase Ensign Ro is being chased by the similarly-out-of-phase Romulan. With the ability to run right through walls and move about undetected by anyone but themselves, the troubled Bajoran and her alien pursuer race through a series of rooms, the occupants completely oblivious to what's going on.

In one room, a crewman is doing push-ups on the carpet when both Ro Laren and the Romulan 'step' on his head while in another room, a man and woman are enjoying an elegant dinner when a struggle between the conn officer and her alien enemy ensues.

As Data speaks with the couple right outside the doors, Ro is fighting for her life...and making all sorts of loud racket in the process ;-)
5. The Enterprise encounters a race of aliens, whose worlds are never seen from outer space nor visited by the crew, in all of the following episodes...except this one.

Answer: A Matter Of Time

Ah, a rather tricky question at the mid-point of this quiz! Let's start by eliminating the other suspects, beginning with "Ensign Ro". In this episode, the Enterprise encounters the Bajora (who would later be called Bajorans to you "Deep Space 9" fans).

But the actual planet of Bajor is never seen nor encountered; only a Bajora colony on the world called Velos II, plus the moon where the terrorist named Orta is found, are seen and visited. In "11001001", the Bynars did hijack the Enterprise and divert it back into their star system.

Moreover, we also briefly caught a distorted digital glimpse of their world via a workstation computer screen near the end. However, we never actually saw their planet of Bynaus from space nor saw anybody step foot on their digital world once their computer core was restored.

Then in "Force Of Nature", we surely never saw anybody on the Ferengi's home planet of Ferenginar. And although the Hekarans, who boarded the Enterprise and were against starships using warp technology to trek through their space, mentioned the name of their planet that was in danger of being destroyed, we didn't get to actually see this planet nor any other Hekaran worlds. So that leaves "A Matter Of Time" as the correct answer.

This fifth-season episode featured the planet called Penthara IV, where Geordi was working with the scientists to help prevent a nuclear winter. Although it was never stated explicitly nor with certainty whether this Federation world was comprised of any non-Humans actually born there (which would make them be called Pentharans) or whether any of the scientists themselves were aliens, it could still be assumed that at least some of the scientists were indeed of the Pentharan race and only appeared to look Human, as many alien species throughout the series often were. But whether or not the latter was the case, the fact that the planet was both shown and visited by the Enterprise at all differentiates it from the other episode choices, as does the 'time traveler' named Rasmussen, who himself was not an alien and actually a Human from the past.
6. Picard, in the middle of a corridor on board the Enterprise, sees an image of his mother seated at a table and serving tea, but after a few moments, the entire image is gone.

Answer: Where No One Has Gone Before

Among the various thoughts that manifested themselves after The Traveler catapulted the Enterprise into the alternate realities is Picard seeing his mother, whom he calls by the French word 'maman', seated at a table right in the middle of a corridor.

She's serving tea to Jean-Luc and enjoys a brief conversation with him, but when Riker approaches to ask who his captain is speaking to, the image of 'maman', the table and the tea are all gone.
7. Data is in temporary command of the Enterprise with Worf serving as First Officer, the two having a private discussion in the captain's Ready Room regarding Worf's questioning of Data's authority.

Answer: Gambit, Part 2

With Picard aboard the mercenary ship and Riker himself eventually being abducted by the mercenaries to serve on the ship as well, command of the Enterprise has fallen to Data. We won't learn that Worf was given the First Officer role, however, until the two are inside the captain's ready room. Worf's continued outward protests and impatience in reaction to Data initially not pursuing the mercenary ship prompts Data to speak to the resident Klingon about his insubordinate behavior, threatening to return Worf to the tactical station and awarding Geordi the First Officer role instead. Yet an understanding and apologetic Worf corrects himself and says that neither will be necessary, and returns to serving as Data's right-hand man until resolution of the events involving the powerful telepathic artifact takes place.
8. Geordi is in his quarters, trying to get Spot to emerge from underneath the bed, but scaring the cat into coming out only results in further breakage and prompts Data to begin training him.

Answer: Force Of Nature

The cute side story in this episode centers around best pals Geordi and Data...and Data's trusty pet cat, Spot. At the very beginning of the episode, Geordi is trying to get Spot to come from underneath the bed when Data enters and asks what's going on.

The infuriated Chief Engineer tells the ship's android that Spot damaged furniture and some other household items, which is when we learn from Data that Geordi agreed to take care of Spot in practice and preparation for getting a cat for himself. Neither trying to call Spot by name nor scaring Spot works; it only results in the cat screeching and racing into another room, where the sound of something else shattering angers Geordi even more. Later in the episode, when Geordi visits Data's quarters, we see the first training session in action. Spot is standing on top of a workstation console with Data repeatedly telling his cat to jump down in his usual calm and emotionless voice; the training session is unsuccessful, and no further attempts to teach the cat how to behave are made for the remainder of the episode.
9. A Klingon is revealed to be a clone in this episode.

Answer: Rightful Heir

The great and mighty Kahless--that's whom Worf and his Klingon companions down on the planet believe who has returned to them. But at least one Klingon remains skeptical: Gowron. After boarding the Enterprise and engaging Kahless in battle on the holodeck, emerging victorious with relative ease, Gowron is even further convinced that whom everyone believes is the great Kahless is actually a fraud and just someone impersonating the legendary warrior. Confirmation comes when Worf, who is now in agreement with Gowron, is speaking to Kahless in the presence of Korath and Torin inside crew quarters shortly afterwards.

He learns from the elder Klingons in dialogue that Kahless was in fact cloned or 'created in a laboratory', as Worf simply puts it.

Their idea was that they felt the Klingon people needed something to lead them and to believe in. Despite the disappointment in the revelation, the false Kahless agrees to go back with his people while Worf is left with the possible hope that the real Kahless might indeed return someday.
10. A member of the Enterprise's senior staff physically attacks another member of the senior staff in all of the following episodes...except this one.

Answer: A Matter Of Honor

And a rather tricky one to close out this quiz! Senior crewmembers attacking their fellow senior officers was a rare occurrence in the series, but when it did happen, something alien or mind-altering in origin was usually the culprit. In "Gambit, Part 1", Picard, under the alias of Galen, is secretly speaking to an abducted Riker in holding quarters aboard the mercenary ship.

But when the ship's captain, Arctus Beran, enters moments later, Picard instinctively delivers a mighty blow to Riker's face, knocking the Enterprise's first officer onto the floor.

The unsolicited assault was two-fold: to show Beran that he was Riker's enemy and that he was on the side of the artifact-seeking mercenaries, all to avoid suspicion. Picard then kicks Riker while the commander is down upon exiting the room for added effect.

In "Power Play", when the possessed trio begins to take over the ship, Counselor Troi delivers a blow to Picard's back to render him unconscious while the two are in the captain's ready room.

Then in "Genesis", when Picard and Data have finally made it all the way to the bridge, they hear a disturbance coming from inside the ready room. That's where they encounter a de-evolved and rather grotesque-looking Riker, who lunges at Picard and knocks his captain onto the sofa. But an alert Data draws his phaser and stuns Riker before any further attacks can take place. So that leaves "A Matter Of Honor" as the correct answer. One might assume that just about every Klingon-themed episode involves some kind of brawl, bat'leth battle, knife-wielding combat or a physical attack of some kind to prove one's worth. That assumption holds true for this episode, as while Riker is stationed on board the Klingon ship as part of the exchange program, he demonstrates his knowledge of the Klingon way by assaulting the Klingon tactical officer for insubordination. However, there are no fights nor attacks involving Riker and other senior officers from the Enterprise, not even including Worf nor the Klingon who assumed Riker's first officer role beside Picard on the bridge.
