Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the beginning of the episode, the family enjoys Thursday dinner. What is their meal?

Answer: Meatloaf

Marge cooks the family dinner in the kitchen while Homer stares into the microwave, waiting for the meatloaf to cook faster. Marge assures him that dinner is imminent and calls the kids to the kitchen for their meal while it's unbelievably hot. Lisa is disappointed-- it's Thursday, yet again, and it means it's meatloaf night.

She claims they need to be open-minded and try new things and Marge agrees. They decide to go out the next night though Homer is disappointed that they're missing their weekly pork chop night. Lisa says they should go anywhere that doesn't sell burgers, pizza, or fried chicken. Sarcastically, Homer suggests Mars.
2. Marge suggests that the family try sushi. What is the name of the restaurant they visit?

Answer: The Happy Sumo

Marge recommends that the family head out for sushi for the first time. Lisa urges her father to consider a sushi dinner the next night despite obvious reservations but she finally gets through to him by bothering him repeatedly over dinner. The following evening, the Simpsons file into a sushi bar called The Happy Sumo to find they're a bit out of their depths.

Their waiter, Akira, recommends the Sushi Surprise to Marge on account of it's the least threatening dish on the menu. Lisa gets the same while Bart opts for shark and eel. Homer is last to order and points at a number of dishes though he claims that it's likely that none will be good.
3. The head chef of the restaurant does not prepare Homer's potentially-fatal meal. Why is this?

Answer: He leaves the restaurant to meet with a woman

Homer soon discovers that he loves the sushi and begins to scarf it down. He has to call Akira back to order several more times until he's covered the entire menu. When he gets to the end he decides to order Fugu, also known as blowfish, and doesn't give the waiter the opportunity to say no.

While Homer orders his meal, the kids head into an adjacent room to sing karaoke with drunken Japanese businesspeople. In the kitchen, the head chef takes a break to visit Edna Krabappel's car and his less-experienced underling is asked to prepare the Fugu, a fish which can be, if not properly prepared, poisonous. Homer eats it anyways, unknowing.
4. What does the family find on the back of their menus after Homer eats his poisonous dish?

Answer: A map to the hospital

Homer thinks that the fish is delicious and by the time it's been eaten, the head chef discovers what's actually happened. The staff of the restaurant rushes to Homer's side to tell him that they have reason to believe his Fugu has been improperly prepared and he needs to go to the hospital. Luckily, a map is on the back of the menu. Dr. Hibbert examines Homer and, based on what the head chef has said, it's likely that Homer has ingested the poisonous venom of the blowfish.

As such he only has about twenty-four hours to live... minus two since he had to wait so long for a diagnosis. Hibbert witnesses Homer go through the five stages of anxiety in front of his very eyes before departing.
5. When Homer makes his list of things to do for his last day, which of these is not included?

Answer: Watch the big game

At home, Marge is broken up over the issue. Homer says that he's the one dying and that she shouldn't be crying. When she asks about telling the kids, he says he'd rather let their last day be a happy memory rather than inform them of the inevitable.
Homer makes a list of things he wants to do on his last day. Entries include 'eat a hearty breakfast', 'make funeral arrangements', and 'go hang-gliding' amongst others. The list includes twelve things including 'make list' at the top and 'have final dinner with my beloved family' at the bottom.
Homer plans to be up at 6:00am to enjoy the day to the fullest. He sleeps through the alarm and wakes up at 11:29am.
6. Which of these phrases is not one that Homer tells Bart will get him through life?

Answer: "Can I get you anything?"

Homer has to skip some points on his list so he moves along to his fourth point-- 'have man-to-man with Bart'. For this he begins by giving the boy some helpful pointers including phrases he'll need to know to help him coast through life. He also teaches Bart how to shave. Homer ends up using tons of toilet paper to cover the cuts on his face from the razor and then finishes with the searing pain of aftershave.

When it's Bart's turn, he accidentally knocks the aftershave bottle onto the floor and Bart is prompted to use the line "It was like that when I got here," much to Homer's delight. After this, Homer asks Lisa to play on her sax.

She begins by playing a sad song but, when she notices Homer feeling blue she plays "When the Saints Go Marching In" to cheer him up.
7. As part of his final day, what does Homer vow to do for Maggie?

Answer: Make a videotape

For Maggie, Homer stops off at the Flanders' place to pick up a video camera and make a tape she can watch when she's older. Flanders opens the door and lets Homer borrow the item before inviting him over for a barbecue the following day. Homer, on impulse, says no but realizes that he'll be dead by then. He promises to come along with the thickest steaks he can find.
When Homer makes the video for Maggie he ends up answering the phone mid-sentence, effectively ruining any sort of seriousness in the tape.
8. Homer is unable to complete all of the items on his list, mainly because he lengthened his time doing which of these tasks?

Answer: Spending time with his father

Homer also decides to unite with his father at the retirement home and say that he loves him despite their obvious lack of connection. This event in the day is so successful that they both head out and steamroll over the time Homer already set aside for other things. This includes spending time fishing, playing catch, and wrestling. It gets so late that Homer drives away without bringing his father along.
To make up for lost time, Homer speeds home and gets pulled over by the cops en route. Rather than get a ticket, Homer is taken to jail.
9. Who bails Homer out of prison?

Answer: Barney

When in jail, Homer gets one phone call to come up with bail and rather than call Marge to bail him out on his last day alive, he calls Barney who scrounges up fifty dollars in his apartment to get Homer out. Homer tells him that he's going to die and Barney is shocked that he couldn't even stop by the bar to say goodbye and have a drink (despite the fact that it was on his list). They decide to stop in and Homer tries to call his family, but the line is busy (the kids are prank-calling Moe's).
When Barney's car breaks down, Homer runs home.
10. Does Homer survive at the end of the episode?

Answer: Yes

When Homer finally gets back, he's missed the family dinner. He and Marge head upstairs and she reads him a poem she wrote that afternoon. When she and the family fall asleep, Homer heads to the den to listen to 'The Good Book' on tape, as read by Larry King. He sits in the chair facing the window as the sun rises.
When Marge comes downstairs to find him in the seat, she finds that his drool is warm-- he isn't dead. When she wakes him up, he vows to always live his life to the fullest.
Next, Homer is seen on the couch with a bag of pork rinds watching a bowling tournament on TV.
