Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the 1982 special, the name of the title relates to a diamond ring. The shows title is "Diamonds are for ______."

Answer: Heather

In "Diamonds are for Heather", the show opens in the Nags Head Pub. It is Spanish night and Del, in an attempt to raise his spirits, talks to a single lady named Heather. They become very close, and Del takes a shine to both her and her son.

However, when he produces a diamond ring to propose, hence the title, Heather informs him that her husband has returned.

A very funny scene is near the very end after his offer is turned down, when he asks the carol singers to sing "Old Shep".
2. In "Dates", the 1988 special, where did Del meet Raquel for their date?

Answer: Under the clock at Waterloo

In this episode, we first meet Raquel, with whom Del was matched up to at a Computer Dating agency. They both lie about their professions - Del thinks Raquel is an actress.

However, he is very surprised when she turns up as the Strippergram he had booked for Uncle Albert's birthday party.

We see a different side to Del after he storms out of the party, when he "speaks" to Raquel. (I believe he likens her to a prostitute!)
3. In 1989 during "Jolly Boys Outing" what is the reason the coach blew up?

Answer: The dodgy radio Del bought catches fire

In this feature length episode, Del and Rodney go on the "Jolly Boys Outing" to Margate with numerous other members of the cast.

Rodney gets himself arrested after the football he was playing with hits a policeman in the head; the coach they are travelling on gets blown up and they end up stranded in Margate.

Del, Rodney and Albert end up staying in a spooky hotel named the Villa Bella. This episode is very funny, with lots of laughs.

Del is reunited with Raquel who has been working as a magician's assistant. However, having got the wrong end of the stick, he punches the Great Raymondo (a homosexual) in the nose when he thinks that he is holding Raquel against her will.

Del then convinces Rodney that Cassandra is having an affair with Stephen (her work colleague) so when he arrives home, Rodney punches Stephen as well.
4. In "Miami Twice", what was the name of the Mafia boss which Del resembled?

Answer: Don Ochetti

Del and Rodney go to Miami. However, things go wrong when they meet a gang of Italians (who turned out to be Mafia members) and are invited to stay at the family mansion.

Unbeknown to them, Del is a dead ringer for Don Ochetti - the Mafia boss - who is facing life imprisonment for countless charges.

In an attempt to make it look like Don Ochetti has been killed, his son and pals arrange for Del to be shot and then drowned - both of which prove unsuccessful.
5. In "Mother Nature's Son", where does Del get the water come from to fill the bottles of "Peckham Spring"?

Answer: The taps in the flat

In this episode from 1992, Del rigs up a hosepipe in Grandad's old allotment to make it look like a spring - another of his scams to become a millionaire.

However, once he finally has a contract, he filled all the bottles up from the tap water in his flat. What Del doesn't realise is that the containers of yellow liquid he asked Denzel to dispose of, has contaminated the water supply to Peckham. His water has now become Glow in the Dark.
6. In "Heroes and Villains," which comic book characters do Del and Rodney impersonate?

Answer: Batman and Robin

The first of the trio, which was meant to signal the end of "Only Fools", the duo impersonate Batman and Robin to go to a fancy dress party.

The three-wheel van breaks down and they have to run the rest of the way. On the way they prevent a local councillor from being robbed, in one of the most famous and hilarious scenes.

They are seen running through the smoke towards the crime scene (with the 'Batman' music playing in the background), help the councillor, and then they run off round the corner.
7. In "Time on Our Hands" what is the name of the watch sold at Sotherby's auction?

Answer: The Lesser Watch

Whilst clearing out the garage, the boy's find a watch, which they are told is the famous "Lesser" watch.

The watch had been missing for years and it is told at the auction that Del and Rodney believed it to be a "Victorian Egg Timer". The watch sells for an extortionate amount and makes Del and Rodney millionaires at long last. It sold for £6.2 million!

"Time on our Hands" was meant to signal the final episode for "Only Fools and Horses", and John Sullivan had wanted the characters to become animated as they walked off into the over-exaggerated sunset.

However, the director did not want it to be so final (had this idea gone ahead there would have been no way they could make anymore) and so they left it with Del, Rodney and Uncle Albert in the scene.
8. In "Strangers on the Shore" (2002), which country did Del and Rodney visit to see Uncle Albert's Naval Memorial Service?

Answer: France

In "Strangers on the Shore", Del and Rodney travel to France to go to Uncle Albert's Naval Memorial Service.

Sadly, Buster Merryfield (Albert) had passed away in real life and was therefore not in this Christmas special.

Del had arranged a Booze Cruise, without telling Rodney, and when they return home they find that they have an illegal immigrant who they name Gary.

What they don't realise is that in France, it is believed that he has been kidnapped (his dad is very wealthy), but to make matters worse, Gary doesn't speak English and only says Gary whenever anyone speaks to him.
9. In "To Hull and Back" (1985 Christmas Special), what is the missing word in this quote: Del: "Can't you just find the bear?" Albert: "Well what does it look like?" Del: "Well it looks like a bloody ____ don't it!"

Answer: Rabbit

When they travel to Holland by boat to collect some diamonds, Del and Rodney enlist Albert to steer the boat having been a navy man.

However he knows nothing about navigation, and soon gets them lost in the North Sea.
10. In "The Frogs Legacy" (1987), what does Del say: Del: "There's gotta be a way! He who dares wins! There's a million quids worth of gold out there - our gold. We can't just say ____ to it."

Answer: Bonjour

Del pleads with Albert and Rodney on the Brighton coast to think of a way they can get the fortune back to shore.
