Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In order to reach Yak's Bend, one can head northwest out of Ascalon or complete which mission?

Answer: Nolani Academy

Yak's Bend is the major city that you will visit in the Northern Shiverpeaks, and it is one of the furthest locations to the east in this mountain range. The area is home to the Shiverpeak Arena as well as many traders which will sell higher-ranking armor and weapons.

When you first arrive here, there are many different quest-givers, some of which will be specific to your profession, so you have a chance to learn new spells.
2. Which of these is not an area within the Borlis Pass mission?

Answer: Dryden Hill

The three incorrect answers in this question are the different settlements found in the Borlis Pass mission, without including the outpost visited in the south end of Traveler's Vale. Borlis Pass is the first mission you'll find on the south end of the Northern Shiverpeak Area, and it'll have you lighting beacons and defeating Drakes, Centaurs, and Stone Summit beasts all the way through.

The bonus for this mission is within a cave, and you'll need to use a powder keg to access it.
3. Which of these tasks is not completed in Traveler's Vale?

Answer: Lighting the storm beacons

Storm beacons are not encountered until the first mission for this area, Borlis Pass. Players can rescue refugees in "Shiverpeak Stragglers", clear paths through the Vale in "The Road to Borlis Pass", and defeat the enemies blocking the entrance to the same mission in "The Way is Blocked", which is the primary task on your route. Traveler's Vale is next to the Ascalon Foothills to the east.

It is also the first location where a player can charm a Snow Wolf as their pet (if they have that ranger attribute).
4. You're in between Traveler's Vale and Anvil Rock. Which lengthy area are you in?

Answer: Iron Horse Mine

Iron Horse Mine runs along the northern end of Borlis Pass and it's home to some nasty creatures. Some of the quests found within Yak's Bend and Traveler's Vale carry over to Iron Horse Mine as it is the only route across the mountain range excluding the mission.

The Stone Summit rules over the area, so you're bound to find tons of these to defeat. There are also Dryders that will attack you on the far-west end of the map. Many of the quests in this region relate to the war machine that seems to be in operation at the mines. You'll need to visit the area at least three separate times to complete them all.
5. Which outpost can be found within Anvil Rock?

Answer: Ice Tooth Cave

Ice Tooth Cave is the only outpost on the north route separating Beacon's Perch (and Kryta) from Yak's Bend (and Ascalon). Located near the north-western corner of the area called Anvil Rock (which is connected to The Frost Gate), the outpost is nestled in a cave underneath the large rock.

The outpost only contains a storage, skill trainer, merchant, and the henchmen. There are no quests from this area or completed in Anvil Rock.
6. If you obtain a quest from Master Saberlin, you will be told to gather certain items in Deldrimor Bowl for a Devourer. Which of these is it?

Answer: Succulent Juniper Meat

If you happen to have gone through Pre-Searing, you may remember Old Mack from Ascalon's Lakeside County. He owned a rogue bull that could be attacked for a certain quest. Also, if you happened to be a warrior passing through Piken Square in post-searing, you could also have attempted a quest to save Old Mack and his new pet Devourer, 'Joe'. If you make your way through to Deldrimor Bowl in the west end of the Northern Shiverpeaks, you can help Joe get a meal by defeating ten Succulent Junipers for their meat.
7. What is the name of the western-most area of the Northern Shiverpeaks which connects the land to Kryta?

Answer: Griffon's Mouth

Though it may be a tiny area, Griffon's Mouth is an important area as it is one of the last places on your route to Kryta. Here, you only have one quest called 'To Kryta: The Ice Cave', which must be completed. In this area, all you need to do is follow a wolf named 'Snow' around to collect marks left by Aidan the ranger. Aidan later appears during your quest through Cantha in "Guild Wars: Factions" and in Elona in "Guild Wars: Nightfall".
8. This merchant object is one of the Shiverpeaks' well-known drinks. What is the name of this alcoholic beverage?

Answer: Dwarven Ale

This drink can be found all over the Shiverpeaks as the whole area is looked over by the Deldrimor Dwarves. When you drink enough of these, your character will become intoxicated and your vision will change (or blur, or change colours), but this can revert back to normal if you exit the area you are currently in.

This has no use other than to earn the 'Drunkard' title. Dwarven Ale costs 200 gold, though there are different alcoholic beverages throughout the game.
9. Which Northern Shiverpeaks Stone Summit enemy is known as the healer?

Answer: Dolyak Rider

Beastmasters are of the Ranger profession, Howlers are Necromancers, and Sages are Mesmers (along with the Stone Summit Ravager). As you progress to the Southern Shiverpeaks later in the game, you can find another set of these enemies (and the same goes for Sorrow's Furnace). You will not find an Elementalist-type Stone Summit enemy until you reach Sorrow's Furnace.

The majority of Stone Summit characters you'll find will use a melee weapon and Warrior-type skills.
10. How many lever mechanisms are needed to open the Frost Gate?

Answer: Three

The Frost Gate is the second of two Northern Shiverpeak missions, and it can be accessed either by completing the Borlis Pass mission or by winding your way around from the north to the south end of Anvil Rock. In this mission, you must assist Prince Rurik by destroying ballistas, but he will fall in battle and you will need to help the refugees to Lion's Arch without his assistance. Completing this mission brings the player to Beacon's Perch.
