Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Most of the creatures in Pre-Searing are passive, that is, they won't attack you if you don't attack them. Which of these creatures will not actively attack you when you move into aggro range?

Answer: Gargoyle

The Gargoyles of Pre-Searing inhabit the dark, gloomy depths of the Catacombs. All gargoyles are Level 1, and hence, will not actively attack you. A simple side-step and you're away. Gargoyles are Mesmers, so they will tend to drop Chakrams and other Mesmer items.
2. How many explorable areas are directly accessible from Lakeside County?

Answer: Four

Lakeside County is the very first explorable area that new players enter, and is where the first enemies are encountered and the first skills are learned. There are four explorable areas that are connected to Lakeside County: Green Hills County to the northwest, The Northlands to the north (hence the name), Regent Valley to the southeast, and Wizard's Folly to the southwest. Also, Ascalon City and Ashford Abbey are outposts that can be accessed from this area.
3. Nicholas Sandford can be found in a small secret garden in Regent Valley. What is the name of Nicholas' faithful four-legged friend?

Answer: Professor Yakkington

Nicholas Sandford and Professor Yakkington are found in a hidden garden just east of Fort Ranik. Several large bushes obscure the entrance, but upon closer inspection, it is easy to navigate around them and enter. Nicholas collects different items each day, and if the player brings him a number of his required item, they can be exchanged for a number of Gifts of the Huntsman, up to a maximum of 5 per account per day. Gifts of the Huntsman contain goodies like Jars of Honey, Sparklers and Bottle Rockets.
4. Scattered about Lakeside County are three 'beautiful' items, which you can give to Captain Osric as part of a quest. Which of these is not one of the 'beautiful' items found?

Answer: Flower

The Beautiful Pearl can be found on the edge of the pond next to Miller Upton's house, inside a Beautiful Shell. The Beautiful Feather is found in the middle of Ashford atop a hill, with a few Striders nearby. The Beautiful Pendant can be found in a chest a little way north of the bandit camp outside Ashford Abbey. You don't need to have any of these items in your inventory to be able to trigger the quest dialogue between Prince Rurik and Captain Osric outside Ascalon City, near Lady Althea's Acting Stage. Osric accepts the task of finding Rurik a birthday present for Althea, and takes the items from your inventory once he finds a suitable present.
5. Who is Lady Althea betrothed to?

Answer: Prince Rurik

Lady Althea and Prince Rurik were engaged to be married prior to the Searing. Both survived this terrible event, but two years after, Althea was kidnapped by the Charr, which sparked a desperate search by her father, Duke Barradin. It is later found out that Althea was burned alive as a sacrifice to the Charr Gods in the Flame Temple Corridor, as part of the quest, "Althea's Ashes".
6. Which profession trainer is found in Wizard's Folly, next to the Wizard's Tower?

Answer: Elementalist Azuire

Elementalist Azuire is located in Wizard's Folly, just a short way southwest of Foible's Fair. Azuire is the person who create the elite skill, Ward Against Harm. During the quest "The Elementalist Experiment", players must defend Azuire from Ice Elemental Shards while she finishes creating the skill.
7. Once players complete their first profession quest, they are given two skills to help them on their way. Which two skills are given for Rangers?

Answer: Power Shot & Troll Unguent

The first profession quest involves dispatching some Skale that inhabit a small area just south of Ascalon City. The quest rewards the player with two skills, which usually consist of a damage skill and a healing skill. The skills received are: Frenzy and Healing Signet for Warriors; Power Shot and Troll Unguent for Rangers; Banish and Healing Breeze for Monks; Deathly Swarm and Vampiric Gaze for Necromancers; Empathy and Ether Feast for Mesmers; and Flare and Aura of Restoration for Elementalists.
8. How many Charr bosses are there at the shrine (which is used in the Searing) in The Northlands?

Answer: Four

The shrine, or altar, that players see in the Searing cinematic can be found in the Northlands, guarded by many Charr, as well as four Charr bosses. Blaze Bloodbane is a Monk boss, Red Eye the Unholy is a Necromancer, Ghast Ashpyre a Mesmer, and Jaw Smokeskin an Elementalist. All four bosses are Level 10, meaning that players wishing to achieve the Legendary Defender of Ascalon title must venture out into the Northlands and repeatedly kill these bosses for the experience.
9. Skullreaver is an Undead, and is also the only boss found in the Catacombs. The way leading up to him is guarded by many Restless Corpses and Raging Cadavers. Skullreaver is of which profession?

Answer: Warrior

Because Skullreaver is Level 5, it makes him one of the highest level creatures in Ascalon outside of the Northlands, thus he is of use to players wishing to get the Legendary Defender of Ascalon title. However, his position in the Catacombs is somewhat remote, meaning that a long run through more Undead must be done to reach him.
10. The final quest in Pre-Searing takes players across the Great Northern Wall, via the Ascalon Academy, to kill an invading Charr boss, and his Grawl cronies. What is the name of this Ranger Charr boss?

Answer: Vatlaaw Doomtooth

Vatlaaw Doomtooth, besides being a Charr boss that has crossed the Great Northern Wall and is hiding in Ascalon, is one of the few creatures in Pre-Searing Ascalon to use an Elite Skill. Once Vatlaaw is killed in the Ascalon Academy mini-mission, the Searing occurs, and the whole of Ascalon is changed forever.

Spoiler warning!

Vatlaaw is the father of Pyre Fierceshot, the Ranger hero acquired in "Guild Wars: Eye of the North".
