Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the first outpost reached in the Northern Shiverpeak Mountains?

Answer: Yak's Bend

Yak's Bend is the first outpost in the Northern Shiverpeak Mountains, and is also the first location where a 6-player party can be formed. A variety of quests originate from here, and several crafters are available for weapons and armour. The Shiverpeak Arena can also be accessed from this outpost, where players up to Level 15 can battle others, PvP-style.
2. The quest, "Renegade Necromancer" sees you tracking down a certain evil Necromancer, who appeared as a profession trainer in Pre-Searing Ascalon, but whose mind was corrupted during the Searing. Who is this Necromancer?

Answer: Verata the Necromancer

Verata is a powerful Necromancer who is highly proficient in the area of corpse exploitation and minion summoning, which is possibly why some minion related skills are named after him. After the Searing, Verata's lust for power makes him an enemy to players, and can be tracked down and fought in the Krytan area of Kessex Peak.
3. How many cooperative missions are there in the Northern Shiverpeak Mountains?

Answer: Two

The two cooperative missions are Borlis Pass and The Frost Gate. In Borlis Pass, players must fight their way through the Shiverpeak Guardians and the Stone Summit Dwarves to reach Grooble's Gulch, and the Deldrimor Dwarves. In The Frost Gate mission, players must aid Prince Rurik in his quest to open the Frost Gate, and allow the Ascalonians through to Beacon's Perch.
4. Which of these is not a profession of a Frostfire Dryder boss?

Answer: Warrior

Frostfire Dryders can be encountered in Iron Horse Mine and Anvil Rock. The regular, non-boss Dryders are of the Necromancer profession, whereas a boss can either be a Necromancer, Elementalist or Mesmer. Unlike most other bosses, Frostfire Dryder bosses do not have their own name; they are simply 'Frostfire Dryder', but the coloured aura distinguishes them from their regular counterpart.
5. Which of these types of Stone Summit dwarf will not be encountered in Iron Horse Mine?

Answer: Dolyak Master

The Stone Summit are a race of xenophobic dwarves that inhabit the Shiverpeak Mountains, and are the enemies of the Deldrimor dwarves. Among the ranks of Summit dwarves found in the Northern Shiverpeaks are Scouts (Rangers), Howlers (Necromancers) and Riders (Monks). Dolyak Masters are first encountered in the Southern Shiverpeaks, and are much more efficient healers than the Riders.
6. Which major campaign character dies in the Frost Gate mission?

Answer: Prince Rurik

The Frost Gate mission is the second and last mission in the Northern Shiverpeak Mountains, before players head onward to Kryta. Players must fight through the Stone Summit to reach the Frost Gate and open it for Rurik and the Ascalonians, which will grant them access to Beacon's Perch, an outpost held by the Deldrimor dwarves.

However, Prince Rurik is killed by Dagnar Stonepate in the final cinematic of the mission. Dagnar is later encountered in the Thunderhead Keep mission.
7. How many ways can you get into the Anvil Rock explorable area?

Answer: 4

Anvil Rock is named for the giant anvil-like rock that dominates the centre of the area. The Dwarves believe that this rock once contained the forge of the Great Dwarf. Anvil Rock can be accessed four ways: by entering (from the north-east) from Iron Horse Mine, by entering (from the south-west) from Deldrimor Bowl, and by leaving Ice Tooth Cave or The Frost Gate.
8. Beacon's Perch is the place where many players advertise runs to which Southern Shiverpeaks town?

Answer: Droknar's Forge

The infamous 'Droknar's Run' is a run that takes players from Beacons Perch in the Northern Shiverpeaks, all the way down to Droknar's Forge, at the very southern end. A plethora of high level monsters fill the explorable areas of Lornar's Pass, Dreadnought's Drift, Snake Dance and Talus Chute. Low level players usually purchase a run to Droknar's Forge solely for the purpose of crafting maximum level armour.
9. You may find Refugees walking around in which explorable area?

Answer: Deldrimor Bowl

The Refugees are from Ascalon, who, like the players, are on their way to Kryta, after the devastation of the Searing. Ascalonian Refugees can also be encountered throughout the Charr Homelands in the "Eye of the North" expansion, offering blessings at resurrection shrines.
10. Griffon's Mouth is a labyrinthine ice cave, and you may get lost easily. To help you through the are, dotted along the ground are markers, belonging to whom?

Answer: Aidan

Plenty of Snow Ettins roam the narrow walkways of Griffon's Mouth, waiting to ambush the unprepared traveler. Dotted along the ground are Marks of Aidan, which help players to navigate their way through the cave and out to the portal to Scoundrel's Rise, where Aidan will be waiting, with his pet wolf, Snow.
