Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who was responsible for the sleeve design of '(What's The Story) Morning Glory?'?

Answer: Brian Cannon

He also designed the artwork for 'Definitely Maybe', 'Be Here Now', and several other singles by Oasis.
2. Who resided at the house where the band were photographed for the front sleeve of 'Definitely Maybe'?

Answer: Paul Arthurs

He later commented that the globe hanging from the ceiling ruined the plaster when it was removed. Luckily, he had been a plasterer before Oasis became famous and he was able to do the repairs himself.
3. What is the plate number of the Rolls Royce on the front sleeve of 'Be Here Now'?

Answer: SYO 724F

The number was actually superimposed onto the car for the sleeve. It was the same one that can be seen on the police van for the front sleeve to The Beatles' 'Abbey Road'.
4. The artwork for this single consists of several different coloured stars with the band's faces as cartoon-like drawings. Which release does this description belong to?

Answer: Songbird

Released on February 3rd 2003, 'Songbird' is the first single written by Liam Gallagher. It entered the charts at number three.
5. What city is featured on the front sleeve of 'Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants'?

Answer: New York City

The Big Apple, if you look closely you can see the World Trade Center off in the distance. The concept was designed by Simon Halfon and Noel Gallagher. Thus it was the first Oasis album sleeve not designed by Brian Cannon.
6. Who was originally photographed for the front sleeve of the 'Wonderwall' single?

Answer: Liam Gallagher

Liam was originally photographed for the sleeve but Noel protested that it was a love song and they should get a girl to be on it instead. Anita Heryet, an employee of Creation Records, was the girl eventually featured on the finished artwork.
7. On the front sleeve of 'Be Here Now' the calendar reads "August 21 Thursday". What does the date read on the version released in the US?

Answer: August 26 Tuesday

This is because, for the most part, anything released in the UK first, usually comes out the following week in the US. A sneak preview of this sleeve also turned up in The Sun with yet another date shown.
8. What street is pictured on the front sleeve of '(What's The Story) Morning Glory?'

Answer: Berwick Street

The photo featured was the first shot they took; it was in the early morning hours so not too much traffic was around. The two men shown are Brian Cannon and DJ Sean Rowley. Noel Gallagher was supposed to be in the photo, but didn't make it due to a case of alcohol poisoning. In the distance, to the left, you can see producer Owen Morris holding a master copy of the LP.
9. Where was the cover art for 'Heathen Chemistry' photographed?

Answer: France

According to 'Q' magazine, 'NME' and various other Oasis publications, the picture was taken on 13 February 2002. It's at the Gare de Lyon, inside a metro station, where the band were changing trains. It is the result of just one shot, as evidenced by the negative border on the album sleeve.
10. Which band member can be seen smoking on the sleeve for 'Cigarettes and Alcohol'?

Answer: Liam Gallagher

According to Noel Gallagher and other people pictured, as quoted in 'Q', 'Select' and 'NME'. The shoot for this sleeve took place at the Halcyon Hotel in London. The women shown are employees of Creation Records. The bloke next to Liam is Tim Abbott, a friend of the band who also once worked for Creation and later co-authored an Oasis semi-bio/tour diary.
11. The sleeve for this single shows the band members facing forward while a crowd of people turn away. Which song is it for?

Answer: D'You Know What I Mean?

This sleeve was shot in Wigan near a boxing club. Wigan is the home town of The Verve, one of the bands Oasis admired, toured with, and eventually became good mates with.
12. What three brands of amplifiers are featured on the sleeve for 'Don't Look Back in Anger'?

Answer: Vox, Marshall, Orange

The sleeve also features a drum kit with a swirling Union Jack design, a white piano (similar to the one John Lennon played on the promo film for his classic song 'Imagine'), various guitars, and a microphone stand. The equipment is surrounded by red, white and blue carnations.
13. What is the only front sleeve where Noel and Liam Gallagher are featured exclusively?

Answer: Familiar To Millions

The album was released 13 November 2000. It is a live recording containing the band's epic performance at Wembley Stadium on Friday, 21 July 2000.
14. Whose idea was it to feature a phone box on the sleeve of 'Be Here Now'?

Answer: Noel Gallagher

During the banter between songs on 'Familiar To Millions', Liam remarks "Whose idea was it for the phone box last time?" to which Noel replies "That'd have been mine, and that kids is a bad advert for drug abuse." Thus it is inferred that it was Noel who suggested a phone box be part of the decor for the 'Be Here Now' sleeve.
15. What is the name of the company that Brian Cannon designs album sleeves for?

Answer: Microdot

Noel met Brian Cannon on a lift while on his way to work for Inspiral Carpets (the band he was a roadie for before joining Oasis). Their offices happened to be in the same building and Noel briefly spoke with him about designing sleeves for Oasis. Brian was allegedly rather surprised when he got a call from Noel asking him to put something together for the band.
