Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the start of the episode, the family watches a clip from what film?

Answer: McBain

Bart and Lisa sit directly in front of the TV at the start of this episode and Homer tells them to back up a bit so that they can all watch 'Yakkin' at the Movies', a show featuring clips from the new movie starring Rainier Wolfcastle, "McBain". The movie, as one would expect, is a high-octane action-thriller with many, many explosions.

While they watch critics argue about the film, the signal on the TV starts to cut out. Homer is called upon to fix it (by hitting it) but the problem gets worse until finally the signal dies. Marge finds it sick that they're still trying to make out shapes onscreen.
2. When did Homer propose to Marge?

Answer: When she found out she was pregnant

When the family considers their options, Marge says that before she and Homer were married, they watched very little TV. Instead they played pool, went out, and went dancing. Most of the time they'd stay home and talk. Lisa says that there would only be so many questions about what life was like before they were married and Marge asks her to fire away.
When Lisa asks about when Homer proposed, Marge decides not to recount that particular story-- Homer asked her to marry him after she discovered she was pregnant with Bart. Marge decides to tell the kids about when they first met.
3. According to Marge's story, when did she and Homer meet?

Answer: Senior year of high school

In 1974, when Homer and Marge were both in senior year at Springfield High School, they had yet to meet. Homer used to drive a beat-up car to school and hang out with Barney; he was just as careless as you'd expect about school. For instance he avoided English class because he would never go to England to use it.

He also had a tendency to find himself in detention. Marge, meanwhile started to find interest in feminism. Taking to the front of the school one day, she staged a protest against female wages by burning a bra on the property.

As a result she was also sent to detention though for the first time.
4. In detention, Marge claimed that she was which of these?

Answer: A political prisoner

In detention, while Barney sat around trying to ask girls to the prom, Homer watched as Marge stepped into the room for the first time (to the tune "Close to You" by The Carpenters). They both chatted though it cost Homer another six days of detention and a trip to the back of the room, but he felt it was worth it since she knew he existed. At home, Abe wondered why Homer was being quiet and not hungry.

When he explained that he was in love, his father mocked him and told him to grab a beer. Abe suggested that they should of had such a talk a long time ago; he shouldn't have set his sights so high; he should have kept his eyes peeled for a 'dented car'.
5. Homer's guidance counselor recommended which of these potential future jobs?

Answer: Nuclear power plant worker

Homer stopped in to visit a guidance counselor (who wondered why he hadn't stopped in sooner) to find a way to try and force Marge to like him. The counselor suggested finding common interests and spending as much money as possible. He also said that Marge has been active on a school team, so Homer decided to go there. Before he left, the counselor asked about Homer's future plans to which he responded that he wanted to drink and party every night.

The counselor handed him a pamphlet for the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, a suggestion Homer didn't take very seriously.
6. To get closer to Marge, Homer attempted to join the football team.

Answer: False

When Homer stopped in to visit the debate club meeting he found Marge standing in front of the group discussing her views. Marge soon received praise from a fellow club member, Artie Ziff, who said that she would be the one to beat at the debate championships against Shelbyville. Homer signed up for the team taking on an issue regarding a 55mph speed limit across America-- he opted to take the con side saying that a few lives would be saved, but millions of people would be late. During his debate against Artie Ziff, Homer's rebuttal consisted of pulling his pants down and mooning the class.
7. Marge used to tutor which of the following subjects?

Answer: French

Homer asked Marge out at an impromptu run-in near a water fountain and while she said that he wasn't really her type he requested that she speak to his references-- one of the coaches, the shop teacher, and Barney-- to ensure that he was a good fit for her.

Despite this she said that she really didn't have time to date since the debate championship was nearing and she tutored French. Homer decided to take the opportunity to hire her for tutoring. Bart and Lisa both find this kind of amusing though it's clear that Bart is more interested in fixing the TV. Homer says that he needs to listen-- he may have to tell his kids the story if something breaks in the future.
8. Does Marge place first during her debate club tournament?

Answer: No

Preparing for his date...erm...tutoring session with Marge, he invited her to his place and turned on some deep music (which she promptly asked him to turn off). The session started at 6:30 but quickly progressed into the night. By one in the morning he'd actually learned a lot and it had stuck, much to both their surprise. Complimenting Marge on her teachings and appearance Homer decided to ask her to the prom and she said yes since he was so dear and honest.
Because she wanted honesty, however, Homer decided to tell her that he'd never taken a French class-- the night was a ploy to get her to like him. Discovering this, Marge slapped him, worried about her debate championship in the morning, and said that she hated him before departing.
The next morning, Marge failed to perform well for her tournament, giving Artie Ziff the trophy. He asked her to the prom and she said yes.
9. Which of these people won the title of Prom King?

Answer: Artie Ziff

Arriving at the Bouvier household, Homer stepped inside to meet Patty, Selma, and Marge's father. When Marge came downstairs she was shocked to find Homer waiting with a corsage, after all, she hadn't spoken to him in three weeks (as he'd been skipping school to avoid her cancelling their date).

When Artie Ziff arrived, Patty and Selma took an instant liking to him and Homer headed out. Homer still took his limo to the prom-- he'd paid for it after all. When he arrived, it was clear that Marge was still shaken over the situation.

The principal also came out to announce the winner of Prom King and Prom Queen; it was Artie and Marge. Homer cried as they shared their first dance.
10. What did Artie Ziff do to Marge that ended up being the final straw?

Answer: He ripped her dress

After the prom, Marge asked why he kept drawing it out when she was with someone else. He responded that things seemed so clear around her and it didn't make sense that the only right thing in his life was so wrong. Marge and Artie headed up to Inspiration Point and, when Artie tried to become intimate with her, she asked him to take her home. On the way back, Marge saw Homer walking on the side of the road and decided to come back to give him a ride.

As Homer hopped into the car, Marge said she realized she should've gone to the prom with him.

He pinned the corsage on her and said that he didn't want to let her go. And he never did.
