Marlon Wayans' Shorty ended up facing off against his marijuana plant (and was rolled up and smoked), but he was saved by Ray, Buddy, and Brenda who, in a moment of brilliance, ended up tossing some munchies into the room to distract the monster. The Wayans Brothers didn't return for the third film in the series despite the fact that they originally conceived the series. They ended up making "A Haunted House" in 2013 instead.

Her hard work finally pays off when workers vote for the union, but it's too late for Norma Rae's father, who has already died of a heart attack after a supervisor refuses him a break when he complains of numbness in his arm. The 1979 drama is based on the real life story of Crystal Lee Sutton, a Roanoke Rapids, NC woman who was instrumental in bringing union representation into the textile industry in the Southern US. Ms. Sutton was quoted as saying that most of the events in the movie were accurate. After winning the battle in her hometown, she went on to represent the union as a paid organizer, becoming, like her fictional counterpart, an inspiration for the working class in America.

Lionel Barrymore was a Hollywood icon from an acting family. His siblings, John and Ethel, were both honored actors. Although modern audiences know him chiefly as Mr. Potter in the Christmas film "It's a Wonderful Life" (1946), he actually began in films in 1911 and appeared in 11 D. W. Griffith productions. He won an Academy Award in 1931 for his performance in the film "A Free Soul". Barrymore had chronic arthritis from 1926 on. After 1938 he appeared only on screen in a wheelchair. In "Washington Masquerade" he seems to shuffle when he walks very awkwardly. In some scenes he leans against props such as a desk or he is given support from other actors. Hattie McDaniel, in what is believed to be her first screen appearance, has a minor part as a maid.

"Blade Runner" was an initially unsuccessful 1982 movie, but is now viewed as a cult classic. "Blade Runner" is about the hunt for rogue "replicants", mechanical recreations of human beings with fixed lifespans. Harrison Ford plays Deckard a police officer, a "blade runner", whose specialty is to hunt and kill replicants who have either committed crimes or escaped the limited areas they are permitted. The movie follows Deckard as he seeks and finds a series of rogue replicants. In the process, Deckard falls in love with a woman who is both a replicant and unaware of her condition, played by Sean Young. Ford's Deckard eventually kills the rogue replicants, who are led by Rutger Hauer. The movie ends in ambiguity as Deckard flees the ever depressing task of killing almost humans while questioning his own humanity. Philip K. Dick is a legendary science fiction writer, whose cautionary tales of the dark side of technology and genetic advancement are the basis for several popular dystopian movies. In addition to writing the source material for "Blade Runner", Dick authored the novel "We Can Remember it for You Wholesale", upon which the 1990 and 2012 movies "Total Recall" are based. Dick's chilling short story "The Minority Report" about the development of precognition as a skill that is used by the government and police is the basis for the 2002 Steven Spielberg directed film "Minority Report". Director Richard Linklater adapted one of Dick's most personal stories into the 2006's "A Scanner Darkly".
